I think I'm running out of steam for this game. We're in month 4 now and it still feels like no one knows what the hell they're doing, including me... Does anyone else feel this way, or am I the problem here?

Re: SYNODIPORIA

I have no idea what is going on, I have no idea how to develop my character and each time I want to? A new jaunt appears, making sure that I cannot develop my character due to a bunch of other characters either being infiltrators or something else. No one can ever be on the same page.

I want to get into this game so badly, but I feel so LOST.

This is how I feel, too, anon. It's like I built all this great CR and now I can't pursue any of it because people are infiltrating as someone new and no one has memories of the past jaunt or my character. Now my character is sort of stuck in limbo and I feel like I have to start from scratch again. It's kind of disheartening, and I hope it doesn't feel this way with every new jaunt.

someone asked me what i was doing with the next jaunt, of course i don't like playing infiltrator. there should be an item or something put in place to force them to keep memories. i know, without a doubt, i probably won't make AC due to the high comment count and the fact that i'm lost.

i was lost last month, lost this month, lol.

i was so excited to finally have some cr with a cast member, but they have no idea who my character is now. so, now what? i feel like: FUCK IT, WE'LL DO IT LIVE.

Well, if people were forced to keep their memories, that kind of defeats the purpose of infiltrating, but I get what you mean. Even more downtime in liminal space would be helpful, I think, but there's nothing to really do there...

I'm just really frustrated that I don't have any helpful suggestions, because without them I just feel like I'm being a big whinerbaby. I kind of wish there was more incentive to be an investigator, but there's no real benefit to it. We don't really do much of anything other than float around and go "ooh look at all of the stuff in this world," and if people are just going to become someone new every jaunt anyway, there's really no reason not to just infiltrate every single time.

I hate to say it, but you pretty much are being a big whinerbaby. The frequent AUing was pushed as one of the main points of the game, so if it has you this fannyflustered, you probably should've found a game less conducive to AUs.

i don't think ayrt is complaining about the aus so much as the lack of consistent cr. if you have to rebuild cr from the ground up every single month, it's really no different from just playing in memes.

Re: -1

(Anonymous) 2014-07-09 07:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Except you aren't. When they stop being infiltrators they'll remember everything, AND the way you treated them as infiltrators. If you're showing consistent friendliness (or consistent antagonism in the case of negative CR) it'll still have lasting consequences.

Re: -1

(Anonymous) 2014-07-09 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
until the next jaunt happens and either you or they are infiltrating again, which really only leaves you with a week of payoff in liminal space once a month. personally i don't really give a shit, i'm here for world hopping and aus, but i can see why some people would get frustrated. i'll probably get bored of it in a few jaunts down the line too.

Considering the fact that "investigators have nothing to do" was the #1 most echoed complaint after this past jaunt, I'm pretty sure it's not just OP that's the problem here. Sure, this game's premise revolves around AUs, but it also totes investigators as being just as important, if not even moreso. It's really failed to deliver on that last promise.

I'm infiltrating this month, so I read the infiltrator post, and surprise, there's very little for investigators to do again. If they wanted to make this game be strictly AU, then they should've just done that instead of dragging the dead weight of investigators around. At this rate I'll probably never play an investigator, because why bother?

(Anonymous) 2014-07-10 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
Touts. Not totes.

And this month is supposed to be mainly laid back CR shit, because that's what everyone wanted after the last Jaunt, so it's no surprise there isn't a huge amount of plot for people to get involved in.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-10 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
I'm having a hard time understanding what "laid back CR shit" means in this context. Just because we're not being attacked by dragons and having fight logs every three days doesn't automatically make it easier for people to get CR across investigator/infiltrator lines. I try to tag as many investigators as I can, but I know a lot of people don't because those threads really just aren't as interesting as the AU improv that comes with threading with other infiltrators.

except 'investigators have nothing to do' wasn't true last time and isn't true this time. last time, a bunch of investigators made various plans, then flaked on them.

off the top of my head, here's what investigators could do this time:

-use their knowledge of advanced technology to help the Tech & Salvage Department

-use their knowledge of history & language, or telepathic translation, to translate documents or otherwise help the C & H kids

-send out salvage missions & retrieve them quickly & safely through Liminal Space, &/or use combat prowess & magical powers to keep things safer.

-use the Mythobiology skill some people picked up to help the Eco Sciences department? idk that's weaker I know

-work on the metaplot. look for NPCs, trace connections, try & figure out what the Trumps want here.

-use their knowledge of other worlds to teach all kinds of things & advance the state of things locally.

if none of that sounds like fun to either investigators or infiltrators, idk. but i feel like my investigator is honestly spoiled for choice. the problem isn't finding something to do, it's picking one area and sticking to it long enough to build cr & make a difference.

obviously a lot of that would need prior planning & mod cooperation, but it shouldn't be news to anyone by now that investigators need to be motivated self-starters. stop wasting time on anoncomms and try to get involved. talk to players, ask the mods questions, don't wait for handholding. get involved.

It's okay Bill, this month's barely started and nobody really know what they're doing yet besides vague silly CR ideas.

Some suggestions: try and get CR with that AU'd castmate and see how it affects their relationship post-jaunt. Be lost ICly and use the psychic network to try and get un-lost, your character's probably not alone in that. If they fit with any of the departments, ICly track down other investigators who might fall in there and work out how you'll integrate with the infiltrators. Meet with infiltrators in those departments and find out why they feel their work is more important/deserving of the grant money/better than stinky other departments. Doggedly follow false leads and have hilarity ensue. Argue with other investigators that their methods and theories are wrong, or support those that line up with yours.

That said, I've got to ask: if you're not into the infiltration/character AUing aspect of the game then what was the original draw for you?

or use the fact that some people or AU'd to get brand-new crosscanon CR (granted, this works better if you're the one infiltrating) - even though last jaunt was messy, plot-wise, I got some great new CR because I was an infiltrator

(though seconding anon above me - if you weren't interested in playing AUs, why join?)

potentially cool cr.

Re: da

and you can't get this because...

Re: da

if you apped into this game to tag with a few specific characters while disliking the actual premise of the game you get little sympathy from me. especially since you can still get cr with them. it just won't be instant gratification.

Re: da

i never said i hated the premise, where did you get this from? i'm just saying that it's hard to get it.

Re: SYNODIPORIA

You could... try coordinating with the people? Like, I'm not sure what would stop you from saying 'hey, guys, could we all investigate this round so we have more time to deal with [blank]?' Obviously, it's a little late, this jaunt, but I saw plenty of people doing that, so I don't see what's stopping you from doing it.

i don't know? i'm not that kind of a pushy person. i don't feel comfortable asking people to do what i want.

(Anonymous) 2014-07-10 11:41 am (UTC)(link)
mostly serious - how do you get anything done....? do you just assume people will psychically know what you want? or do you just do what everyone else does even you aren't having fun?

because either way sounds unproductive

(Anonymous) 2014-07-10 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
You can't demand people do what you want, but saying "hey there's this thing that would be cool, let's do the thing" is kind of necessary for doing pretty much anything in RP.

ayrt

(Anonymous) 2014-07-10 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
or like... in real life, too

and i mean, i understand anxiety disorders because welcome to my life, but you either say nothing and are unhappy like nearly 100% of the time because you don't get to do what you want, or you ask and most likely they will either be YEAH THAT SOUNDS COOL (and you are no longer unhappy) or 'that doesn't work for me right now (in which case you are no more unhappy than you were before)

Re: ayrt

(Anonymous) 2014-07-12 05:46 am (UTC)(link)
i just usually go with what everyone else is doing when it comes to rp, i just find my niche and tag around with that. i'm just not finding it, which bothers me. i genuinely just feel guilty nagging.
