What if we started advertising games on tumblr?

People talk about how there's so much less fresh blood than there used to be bc dw isn't a fandom hub like lj was, so

Why not take the ads to where fandom is located now?

but you miss the other half of that argument.people were in lj so they knew the FORMAT. they udnerstood how journals worked because they had their personal one,

dwrp has two unpopular things in the online rp world: fandom and format. tumblr has only one of those.

I've played with them. Oh yeah, I've gone through the belly of the beast. I've stared into the abyss.

Actually, they're not all that bad. I've seen some pretty nasty one-line threads but hey, DWRP has it's "[ blinks ]" tags, right? Most of these guys are kids, probably the same age we were when we discovered this odd little "internet role playing thing on Livejournal" and you have to admit, we've changed. We've improved from our first ever games to where we are now.

Sure, I've interacted with a few who get panic attacks and triggers but they're not at as horrible with playing as you think. I've had some who are super eager to plot and are willing to write starters and tag you as much as and as long as they can.

So, why not advertise where the fandoms are now? Let's get some new blood in. Who knows, they might bring some good ideas and some fresh games in along with them.

there's a vast cultural difference - for example some tumblrites that come over here don't realize plagiarism is a bad thing because it's okay to take things unsourced on tumblr.

I wouldn't mind new blood, everyone goes through an adjustment period with something new. Mostly I think it's because they've have to be trained. Throwing them in without any help would be painful for both sides. Just simple things like formatting all the way to 'leave your crazy sparkle-tiger-Sephiroth headcanon on tumblr or at least play it in personal muse boxes'. We used to have a lot more of this kind of thing on LJ and we survived and they integrated just fine or wandered off for the most part.

i'm so desperate for something new and fresh and innovative i'd be willing to hold these kids' hands if they're willing to give us a shot

sure they'd probably do some flaffing around at first but we need some new stimulation i think. new ideas. crazy ideas. outside ideas. i'd openly welcome that even if we have to slog through a little flaff at first.

As someone who first rped on lj, then dw, and then on tumblr, they are the worst flakes ever.

You think people here are bad about that? Over there it's worse. Also 90% of them are hipsters who cockhop on any pretty male, whether it's animu or LA.

It's been mentioned but Tumblr RP culture is different that DWRP culture. I looked around because I thought about giving tumblr RP a go...

But I kept seeing posts about "oh it's not fair to not RP with X type of character" "It's snobby to exclude people from your RP group" "Being 100% like the character is uncreative" etc, so on. More recently there was a post going around about "Worst thing about DWRP: Applications."

DWRP has quality control and an overall acceptance that no one is entitled to play with any other person or group of people, both of which are things that, from what I've seen, tumblr RPers seem to take offense to.

i also wouldn't be comfortable with playing with anyone under 18. a lot of us are at least 21 and i'd venture to say about 22-28 on average. i don't want to play with 14 year olds.

As someone who used to moderate a game that ended up with at least 10 players brand new to lj/dw rp at the time YES. Those legit interested in rp will learn fast and I think those actually interested in writing will do well here. Yes, there will probably be shitty whiny babies but seriously guys did we forget this is rpanons and what this meme is based off of. Some will flake and go back to tumblr and that's okay. Generally I seriously wouldn't mind cultivating new babies into our ways.
