Okay

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

I'll take a stab at the insane logic, though I admit to not being sure if I even fully understand it.

My thought is that it's because the asterisk makes the term more general so it can refer to any person who is transsexual. Pretty much it becomes a wildcard where the asterisk can be used to represent anything after the word "trans". But trans itself has a particular meaning to it. I could see where it could be transphobic, but not for that reason. It's more for the "oh, if I put an asterisk I don't have to worry about accidentally causing offense with the wrong term" so people can be lazy and not bother trying to understand the person and what they truly identify as.

What I don't get is why someone would add an asterisk to trans woman or transphobia. Trans* is supposed to be a general term, and those two words are more specific words. Is it like trans* woman? Because to me typing it like that is up there with stuff like ATM machine and PIN number. It's redundant except the redundancy isn't outright stated.
