Okay

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

Characters who have been through so much traumatic loss in their life that they stopped caring about themselves. Even better if the other characters have no idea until it's too late because the character is good at hiding it (basically, they keep their angst and trauma to themselves). Also bonus points for it leading to a selfless sacrifice to protect a loved one.

Thirding. More people need to play Kenshin.

in a similar vein to the above, Abel Nightroad from Trinity Blood or Vash from Trigun.

Xerxes Break from Pandora Hearts sounds like he'd fit what you're looking for.

Kaladin from Brandon Sanderson's Stormlight Archive.

(Warning: Stormlight is an immensely open canon, and Sanderson is a proven master of overturning expectations.)

Irving Braxiatel. YMMV on how little he cares, but he's definitely had a rough life, everyone thinks he brushes it off, and he accepted a brain consuming ancient evil to save his unrequited love and Gallifrey.
