anoncomm is hit and miss for an accurate opinion on something, considering how many shitstirrers we have, and madoka was a fad canon - so of course you had trolling going on. people were sick of it, so they found easy ways to piss everybody off.

i'm talking actual games, because i've never seen f/f hate in any of mine. the occasional creepy player fetishizing it, maybe, but never vitriol. in fact, i get the feeling that if you outright stated that you thought a f/f pairing wasn't legitimate on the basis of it being between two women, you'd get your ass handed to you.

I've seen it. It's not always outright hatred, often it's F/F getting flak for what players in m/m ships or m/f ships are doing in the same game without anyone complaining.

For example, a game I was in had a polyamorous lesbian ship not involving me (I don't play poly, not because I hate it, but because it's not my thing). One girl had two different girlfriends, and was open about it. Meanwhile, a male character kept a harem, and was described as such by his player.

The F/F one was the only one that got people complaining, including self-professed straight girls claiming they were "protecting lesbians of stereotypes" by wanting the polyamorous ship F/F ship to go.

Another game had two underage ships not involving me. One M/F, one F/F. The only ship that got complaints, despite being not sexual in any way, was the F/F ship, even though it's pretty supported by canon. You had people state that they only thought the F/F ship was problematic, because it was F/F, and that the M/F ship was fine.

It's not everywhere. There are a lot of games without this. But there are also a lot of games where people are uncomfortable with lesbians existing in general, and give M/F (and sometimes M/M) a pass for things they'd bash in F/F couplings.

Just last year I had a game where a player was asked to stop mentioning that she had a girlfriend, because it made people uncomfortable. She had mentioned it two times, when other people talked about their SO.

I really thought this was the norm, because it has been the case for most games I was in.

It's why I went to QoH. Come to think of it, isn't this issue one of the reasons QoH was made in the first place? So there are a number of people that experienced it.

And if I remember right, didn't QoH also draw a lot of homophobic hate on rp secrets before the game even got advertized?

I'm not saying that F/F is hated everywhere, but some of us were unlucky enough to have been to the parts of LJ where it apparently is.

That sounds like regular old homophobia. :/ People thinking the m/f was fine and not caring about the guy having a harem, I mean. Anyway, I just wish people would stop trying to turn it into a who's oppressed more context. People complain about m/m shippers and that they only want buttsex (and surprise, they manage to sound pretty misogynistic when criticizing the women who play such ships, even when they're queer). People think f/f players are neckbeards and only want to play the ship to be creepy. All of that should just stop imo, and people need to stop assuming that just because someone is interested in playing a same sex ship it's automatically OOC and thus deserves more scrutiny.

anytime i tried to start one up i got told i was being creepy and fetishizing the characters and to an extension the players. these games had predominantly m/m shipping bases with a healthy side of m/f looking back. they openly engaged in smut in public as part of the games but i was the creepy one forcing it by developing a relationship first. it's only been a short while now have i found any games that like canon lesbians/bisexual women (or just shipping two girls at all) or lesbian players.

as the other anon said, qoh exists for these reasons. it's slow but steady and supportive. it also exists for another problem i've seen in rp at large for years now that is a subset of the f/f problem, which is female characters are not played as often. because "only care about yaoi" makes up a significant portion of the playerbase (or at one time did) so there's a dearth of female characters in general. there's also just a lot of misogyny/internal misogyny and lesbophobia floating around, not just in rp culture.

people also assume that anyone playing f/f must be a man jacking off to all this. in my experience, any guy playing f/f have been relatively respectful. the ones that i fear are the creepers who insist my canon lesbians REALLY NEED TO SLEEP WITH THEIR GUY RIGHT NOW to assure themselves that MAYBE THEY'RE NOT SECRETLY BI OR STRAIGHT. or they play canon lesbians getting into relationships/fucking only men. there's a lot of this out there. men who play honest f/f relationships and want to play them tend to be on the level.

honestly? games that have a large LGBT playerbase i find are more open to accepting any ship in game than ones with a larger straight playerbase. it's been perfectly straight men and women i've had most issues with this with, but i'm unsure how you could go about figuring this out before joining a game.

i don't think m/m or m/f are problems, just reflections of the playerbase and their wants. not enough want f/f or are enough people wanting to break down why it's oddly ostracized.

i hope the op of this comes back; please go ahead and play more f/f. fuck the haters and their insane double standards.

Or people whine about in chat about "too many lesbians" every time you get in (Spoiler: 5 lesbians among 160 characters is too many). Or keep plurking about how it's making them super duper uncomfortable to having to see a lesbian character. Or complaining that being against homophobia is "catholic bashing".

Your experience is very similar to mine in many ways.

I can think of one player who really is bad at F/F and is also male. "That Patchouli". I can think of plenty more guys that do as you described. It's sad that it's common.

Reminds me of a certain Rob M (if you read this and whine: Fuck you with a rusty screwdriver :D). Who at one point, out of the blue, told me not only my characters should try guys - I should. Otherwise it'd be mean to men and depriving them.
