this just in: not everyone is you and has your confidence. it'd be really nice if they were but the world doesn't work that way so maybe instead of further tearing their self-esteem down here, on the chance they frequent anoncomm, and trying to invalidate what positive regard they receive on a love meme, you could, i don't know, come up with a productive solution.

Eh, there's a hate meme, why not a love meme. People who judge either of them are pretty pathetic imo. If you don't see the point in them, move along.

One could argue they represent both extremes of what's wrong with DWRP culture.

You wouldn't have to argue very hard, it's really true. Too many people turn this hobby into a fulltime obsession.

I wouldn't have a problem with it if the people that did it didn't seem to post to it once a month, in addition to the daily "what do you love about me?!" plurk memes, along with the regular "lol i feel like no one loves me (unsure)" plurks.

Then the stench of desperation is overpowering.

People weekly post those memes of REASSURE ME, tell me you love me, etc. I understand people have confidence issues but its not others responsibility to constantly pad that confidence with asspats. But when no one responds, there's a PA plurk of ...oh okay (unsure)

I don't mind love memes once every few months but I am tired of saying the same shit over and over again to a lot of people who are not even actively RPing.

why can't there be love memes where people can post names, unsolicited? That would be more genuine then 'hey guys here's my thread on the love meme comment me!!'

Yeah, I think that's how they were originally. I don't know when that kind of meme evolved into this shit we have now, but I wish it hadn't--it's so much more genuine that way imo.

There are players who would rather not get namedropped on a public meme because even positive namedrops tend to invite wank that never would have happened if the complimenter had just left well enough alone. It's not always easy to tell who is ok with public praise and who isn't, and the love memes that let you post yourself make it easier to tell.

It's best to just keep the praise private, through PMs and e-mails and the like, or semi-private like on the character's HMD in their journal, so as to avoid the risk.

There was an anon love meme a month or so back which was a little more like the ones of old. It didn't seem to get as much attention unfortunately.

I don't mind "list yourself" love memes, or love memes in general since I don't generally think about complimenting the people I play with (or the occasional meme tagger I really enjoyed), but I feel like they're too often now, and kind of miss anon "namedrop other people" ones.

I don't mind love memes and I don't care if my friends post to them.

...But personally I just wait for HMD memes. If people want to compliment me there, it's not like I specifically asked for it. At the same time I might get concrit. Best of all worlds.
