Rundown:
rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.
Temporary Change: To reduce the strain on Dreamwidth's servers new entries will go up when a post reaches 3,000. Please refrain from spamming so we can stretch these entries for a little longer. We don't need several threads soliciting photo evidence of body parts, and we already know that we only care about yaoi. Failure to comply will only result in deletions and butthurt. "People may notice site slowdown/cache error pages. We're working on fixing. You can help: finish posts at 3k comments, not 5k or more." - Dreamwidth@Twitter
Rules:
Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Concerns?

(Anonymous) 2012-10-02 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)However most cable companies offer basic cable. And it seems most people are expressing a desire for the equivalent of basic cable. They want a bit more than free (which would be non-cable-CW, CBS, NBC, etc) but they also don't wanna get Starz. And they really don't wanna shell out for HBO and 1000 channels of sports.
They just wanna watch hours of SVU marathons.
Flouncing out of rp is dumb as shit, and railing about something that DW has been pretty open about why they're not giving is getting silly, but the original idea itself isn't that ridiculous.
Having levels available isn't a dumb business plan (Obviously, as it's how DW works) and suggesting another level, one that has been highly successful on a sister site isn't that weird of a thing to do. It's not even asking them to change their business model, as that is, in fact, the business model they use.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-02 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)So following the analogy, basic cable and a basic paid account would be pretty comparable. Premium accounts would be like a higher level cable package, and adding on extra icons on top of that would be like your pay per view or whatever.
I think the analogy holds up pretty well too, but I think the point is that basic/entry level packages are generally not no-frills or minimal service packages. Basic, entry level packages are already a tier that delivers quite a lot. Businesses want to make it seem like people are getting lots of stuff for their money, and fewer and fewer places offer bare bones kind of options.
What people seem to be asking for is a real bare bones account level that's still higher than the free account level, and in a lot of ways it just doesn't make sense from the point of view of the provider. You get bare bones for free; if you pay, you get a load of stuff bundled together.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-03 01:14 am (UTC)(link)A lot of anons just seem to be acting like the idea in general is some out there concept and/or people wanting things for free and being entirely unreasonable. Which it isn't. It's not that big a logic leap to, without knowing the ends and outs of the business, to go "Well you are just like LJ in so many ways, and LJ has this very popular feature I like, so why don't you?"
