Cute and hydrated

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for fictional character role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not post personal information. This includes but is not limited to full names, addresses, phone numbers and so on.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Do not solicit money, Dreamwidth points, or other currency unless you are offering a good or service in return.
Discussion of or soliciting RP for celebrities or other non-fictionalized versions of real people is not allowed.

I mean, it's a "damn if you do, damn if you don't situation" either way, anon.

But after sinfluencers and the game gsai was modding behind the scenes, I know many players are more hesitate about joining a game being run by an anon.

There was an anonymous plurk a few months back of the OP asking the community what people are looking for in a game, many have stated that anon mods are a deal breaker for them.

otoh, Synflux is anon-modded and currently chugging along wank-free.

Tbh I think plurks like that (both anon and not) should be taken with a grain of salt. You can give some people everything they say they want in a game and they'll still find reasons not to app.

Re: Advice?

(Anonymous) 2025-05-28 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
if we listened to every loud weirdo that shoves themselves into an interest check or something similar, we wouldn't have anything, ever. trying to cater to everyone is pointless. the appropriate response to anyone saying it's a deal breaker is "okay".

go ahead and anon mod, OP.

DA

yeah, people who turn up to scream your concept doesn't cater to them specifically weren't going to app anyway

do your thing, OP.

you mean the anonymous plurk full of the shittiest takes known to man

begging any and all irl mods to ignore that plurk we will never have a functional game again if mods start listening to it

Re: Advice?

(Anonymous) 2025-05-29 11:23 am (UTC)(link)
that thing was like setting out bait for all of the most annoying people who show up in interest checks to complain and then never join anyway. you know the ones. lol

Re: Advice?

(Anonymous) 2025-05-29 12:25 pm (UTC)(link)
if being an anon mod prevents the people in that plurk from joining, then that's a point in favor of being anon

do you have a link to this plurk, it sounds rich

went through most of it, I don't think anon mods are as huge a turn off as this thread was saying the plurk said they were

I think I'm more curious how games develop ban lists and pre-ban lists. do mods have some kind of list of names to pass around? just the usual suspects, or is there more to it? some mod teams lurk here and on wankgate, some say they don't.

Re: Advice?

(Anonymous) 2025-05-31 09:05 am (UTC)(link)
it varies on the person, tbh. some of them you have to list multiple names because they go through them like underwear, either to avoid bans or for continuing to figure out who they want to be online. some of them are serious problems in games because of their behavior, their inability to communicate, their boundary pushing/ignoring preferences. serious things that make the game miserable. they fight the mods. they manufacture wank/doctor screencaps/sic people after bad cr. they're bullies. then there's the moderate/medium annoyances that ask too many minutia questions, constantly pester the mods, don't listen/don't read properly, constantly have communication issues because they don't talk to people. they're the kind of player that makes a mod groan when they open their email and see a notif from them. they make the game less fun to run and play in.

if a mod doesn't want to deal with a specific brand of shit, they have every right to just blanket block the ones they know of that are huge annoyances. snow, jamie, luc, art, g... there's frequent names that crop up that are constantly in the midst of some kind of wank. i wouldn't be upset if a mod just put all the frequently named people on a blanket 'fuck off' list and kept it to a small group. but in answer to your question, it comes from experience with people they don't like, or being here long enough to be familiar with the troublemakers.

this is going to chafe luc's ass so bad. congratulations on that upgrade

ban lists should not be taken from lurking on wankgate, honestly. while some of that is accurate, a lot of people dropped there are pretty innocuous and just pissed off people who hang out there. i've more than once seen blatant lies there about people and situations i know extremely well, with proof to the shit being said there being wrong.

Re: Advice?

(Anonymous) 2025-05-31 09:23 am (UTC)(link)
contextually. just being mentioned shouldn't warrant a ban, but if a mod goes to wg and reads threads and gets intel that a lot of people do post on wg, then it shouldn't be dismissed just because that's their portal to info. as someone shat on and brought up on wg with a bunch of deetless shit, i get it. but it's obvious when someone is just the target of a grudgewanker.

Re: Advice?

(Anonymous) 2025-05-31 10:06 am (UTC)(link)
+1

adding to this, "legitimate" sources can also be grudgewankers. i know a couple of people who are obsessed with decades old drama from when they were refused threads in games on livejournal and still try to drag the people involved and even complain to mod teams to get the players prebanned. mod teams should ask for recent evidence of wrongdoing before they make a judgement imho.

you're right, but generally speaking mods aren't dumb sheep who take wg as gospel. they can use their brains to tell the difference between a grudgewank and a repeat problem offender.

the number of times i have seen people straight up lie on wg or make wild claims without a shred of proof and have their words taken as gospel and perpetuated because 'that sure sounds like [person i don't like]' well outnumbers the amount of times i have seen people with legitimate grievances

Re: +1

(Anonymous) 2025-05-31 11:58 am (UTC)(link)
shortly after asking someone not to tag me any longer some wild claims about me started popping up. it did not make me regret asking them not to tag me but it paints a weird picture of me if anyone took the claims as truth.

i think it's more like a handful of nonnies with anonmod trauma decide they are the Voice of the Community whenever the subject comes up, but it's actually just them and their friends they are speaking for

Re: Advice?

(Anonymous) 2025-05-29 01:19 pm (UTC)(link)
the problem with gsai's game wasn't that it was anon precisely it was the mod specifically hid his identity because he knew no one would join if he was public. he was basically manipulating the good parts of anon mods. that doesn't mean all of them are sus.

honestly it's damned if you're do, damned if you don't, because if you don't, people will drag mods and accuse them of all kinds of things, and if you do, people speculate about the mods and drag random people and guess things they're doing instead.

being a mod really sucks

+1, People were so quick to jump on that anon when there are cons to being an anon mod. There's no doubt about that. Just like there are cons to being a known mod.
