Rundown: rpanons is an anonymous community for fictional character role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

generally it depends on where you are, from what i've seen.

for my shelter specifically, it's somewhere in between. i connected with the shelter back in college through a charity program that provided clandestine medical help for survivors of domestic violence. i was approached by one of the program admins about volunteering at the shelter, then referred to a senior volunteer there. i've been a seasonal volunteer ever since.

we're often short on volunteers not because of a lack of interest, but because of volunteer conduct. some are not willing to risk being exposed to violent abusers (fair enough), some balk at the rules we have to follow (absolutely no photos, no sharing activities on socials, etc.), and some have detrimental attitudes towards volunteer work (wanting to "save" the survivors through religion, for example). a lot of prospects also presume that they'll be interacting with the survivors directly, and are surprised when we tell them only a small number of volunteers do for everyone's safety.
