Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for fictional character role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not post personal information. This includes but is not limited to full names, addresses, phone numbers and so on.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Do not solicit money, Dreamwidth points, or other currency unless you are offering a good or service in return.
Discussion of or soliciting RP for celebrities or other non-fictionalized versions of real people is not allowed.

It depends who you ask. Christian anti-cult groups call us a cult because we're non-Trinitarian and our founder rewrote the Nicene Creed extensively. Atheist/unaffiliated viewers who consider us a cult usually point to dietary/intake restrictions and the way we talk about our founder.

I won't deny that last one is kinda valid. There is a segment of the church that is very, very intense about our founder. But that founder isn't around to be personally in charge, and the Hassan BITE model really doesn't apply, so as I said -- I don't believe we are one. We are weird, sure, but weird isn't synonymous with culty.

da, but now i'm curious, can you say a little bit more about the dietary restrictions? is it like "you're not allowed to eat [X group of food]", like a kind of meat or all alcohol or stuff like that, or is it something very specific? you don't have to say exactly what it is, i'm just curious if it's comparable to how some other religions do it (islam and pork, christianity and fish being separate from meat, etc.)

The way it's phrased internally is that we're supposed to avoid "intoxicating foods, drinks, and vapors," which does mean alcohol and outright drugs like tobacco and marijuana, but also foods that are supposed to have milder effects on the mind and body that are too drug-like, like caffeine as a stimulant and chamomile as a mild muscle relaxant.

How strict people are with this is up to individual discretion, so chocolate, green tea, stuff with very small amounts of caffeine usually slides. Rolling up to church with a coffee will definitely get a side-eye, though.

oh i see! thanks for answering, that is really interesting; i've heard of religions/philosophical systems discouraging intoxicants before, but never stuff like chamomile or chocolate. i hope you guys are allowed to take medications that can affect the mind when you need to.

We are! Though, we're encouraged to take that kind of medication as little as possible and seek out non-intoxicating alternatives as much as we reasonably can. So for instance, after I had surgery I was given a prescription for opiate painkillers, but I think I used maybe two or three pills out of the 20 they gave me. Other than that I stuck with Tylenol at the max safe dose. And even then my parents fussed like I was going to turn into a druggie on them. I tease them about it to this day.
