rpanons is an anonymous community for fictional character role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

falling out of favor is absolutely the key here - not that we didn't used to do it with AIM and LJ 20 years ago, but that on the whole we don't do that here on DW in 2025 anymore. it's not typical, standard, or expected, which is probably why some players here would find it odd and off-putting. and tbh I do too, I wouldn't want to go back to that format.

I have no feelings on this whatsoever and find it fascinating that some people do. I can see from a mod perspective some disadvantages, and it's a valid personal preference for your threads, but why would it be off-putting if other people did it for threads/interactions you weren't a part of?

nayrt but it puts pressure on players to have and use discord or risk being left out of certain avenues of cr. if a large portion of the game prefers to do their threading on discord and you don't want to, you're going to be left out of cr and plot opportunities. that's pretty offputting to me because people shouldn't be expected to have to use a completely separate platform in order to be able to play in a game that's supposed to be on dw.

there's a reason all of the games i'm in tell players that plotting should be done on the ooc comm and not in the game discord so that people who don't want to be in the game discord don't get left out of things.

What are your feelings on Plurk?

I totally get it if the thought process of it is 'it's a DW game, everything should be on DW'

plurk is socially expected but id be surprised if you found any game that specifically had rules requiring applicants have a plurk account

this. plurk is always an option, never a requirement. games will make announcements on plurk but they also post them in the ooc comm so you don't have to be following the plurk to keep up with things like tdms/reserves/apps/ac.

Plurk to me is more of a supplemental thing. I can hash out the specifics on Plurk without clogging up replies with OOC comments. But not having a Plurk doesn't gate me from CR. RPing being done on Discord would.

Because when I join a game on DW the expectation is that the game will be played in DW. That the plotting will be done in DW. That the RPing itself will be done in DW. I hate Discord, it's an archival mess: its search function sucks, you can't pull up logs by unique URL, username, etc. So if a game advertised itself as DW but a significant portion of it was done in Discord? I'd feel lied to.

I was asking about posting logs that were written elsewhere on DW. Sorry if that wasn't clear!

Curious how you feel about Plurk, now, though. A lot of games have almost all plotting done on Plurk and if you're not active on Plurk, you're shut out of a lot of the game.

DA but this isn't the same thing. No one uses plurk directly for RP then post the finished content to DW that I know of. Plurk and discord imo should be completely optional and used primarily for ooc connections, and optionally for plotting. If any rping is happening on them, that would make them plurk/discord games, not dwrp games, because the rp isn't happening on dw.

The posting to dw is more similar to me to having kinklists on flist or taken lists on google sheets. It's just using another site as an archive and not as the main hub.
