we're all cringe here

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not post personal information. This includes but is not limited to full names, addresses, phone numbers and so on.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

please give me soup recipes! ideally soups that incorporate a lot of veggies, but honestly i'll take just about anyone's favorite soups.

I am so bad at "recipes" for soup, but I like buying a rotisserie chicken, and eating most of the meat and using the carcass for a broth base. Add veggies. Just. Add veggies. And then cook until it soups.

i dont have any but in general better than bouillon is a good place to start (might depend on flavor)! and a specific type of soup i've really enjoyed is sicilian split pea soup

more of a general suggestion than a recipe: use bok choy! it goes well in almost anything and has a very mild flavor. I like to make a chicken soup with Bok choy, mushrooms, onions, and potatoes, but you can basically mix and match almost any vegetables that you like. I usually precook cut up chicken and then just throw it and whatever vegetables all together into a pot with water or broth and let it cook for a few hours until everything's all become one soup. for spices I'm usually lazy and do some simple garlic and salt.

Zuppa toscana - lots of DIY recipes to make a copycat of my favorite olive garden soup, including some vegetarian and vegan versions

French onion soup is always good, and I usually do a couple different types of onion, some carrots, and then add some sauteed mushrooms at the end

Ina Garten's tomato and eggplant soup is the best fall/winter soup ever

And not exactly a soup recipe, but I fucking LOVE matzo balls and regularly buy the manischewitz mix (not for the soup, just their matzo ball mix, which I throw into every soup ever)

Oh! And also the blog Will Cook for Smiles has a tomato and zucchini soup that is great for summer.

God I love soup

Give me your best skincare routines/products! For context, I have combo skin, mild acne breakouts, and skin that is very sensitive to products. I've got an okay routine right now but I'm looking to improve over the next year or so cause there's a wedding next year I want to go to and I want to look my absolute BEST!

what's your current routine & how old are you?

also, where & when do your breakouts happen?

Re: ASK ANON

If you have a reasonable routine, see a dermatologist if your breakouts continue to bother you. There’s no cheat codes anyone here can give you.

Less is probably more though if your skin is sensitive. Mild cleanser and simple moisturizer like cerave, a peroxide cream product for spot treatment, change your pillow case frequently, etc. Anything intensive is just as likely to break you out.

go to a derm - not an esthetician, but a legit doctor. if you're already managing okay with OTC stuff but wanting to treat the breakouts, you can ask about Tretinoin, which ime is fine for people with mild acne unless they're sensitive to the drug. total cost for visit and script will be less $$$ than collecting a bunch of near identical moisturizing/exfoliating/whatever products. you also might want to try taking vitamins, if you don't already. vitamin c is great.

if you still want to diy it yourself, check out the ordinary or paula's choice. they both have products specific to a lot of typical skin issues, and they're all pretty good ime, but mostly i like how both companies label their ingredients and explain what each one does. if you can figure out what works for you, you can find the ingredients in other products.

you having sensitive skin sort of makes it hard to recommend anything in particular.

if op already has a hard time finding products for their highly sensitive skin, tret is not a good option

go to a dermatologist, op

I recommended they ask their dermatologist about tret. I have combo and sensitive skin too but did really well with it. 🤷‍♀️ skin is too variable to have one size fits all advice.

if you' re the scientific type and have a bit of money, get some lotions with very simple ingredients and a list of common sensitivities. start experimenting by using just one lotion every couple of weeks. i caught a few of my own skin sensitivities through trial and error. it cost me some money, and i do need to read labels more often now, but knowing that my skin is sensitive to a very common ingredient was definitely worth the three or four months of wonky skin i had during testing trials.

also, shark sauce (https://www.holysnails.com/products/shark-sauce) is the bomb. i literally go nowhere without it.

Sounds like we have similar-ish skin! I have made something of a small hobby out of skincare in the last few years, so I have a buuuunch of faves to list off. My skin isn't quite as sensitive, so I'll throw in some alternate recs JIC:

I like the Inkey List's salicylic acid cleanser (clear foaming gel, little to no fragrance, may be slightly drying if used w/out other products) for breakouts. This stuff KOs my maskne, but Cerave's S. acid cleanser might be gentler if this one's too harsh.
A sulfer-based cleanser like Kate Sommers Eradikate might be helpful if your breakouts don't respond to the salicylic.

Fave toners right now are the Ordinary's glycoic acid toner for exfoliation and glowoasis's ph balancing moisturizing milkdew for when my skin is drier. Avoid alcohol-based astringent toners, they just make you overproduce oil after drying you out- the ones gentle enough to just spray or splash on are ideal.

The Ordinary's Niacinimide and zinc serum helps reduce redness and regulates oil production to prevent breakouts. Great under makeup. If it's irritating, the culprit is probably the zinc, so try their niacinamide powder mixed into any water-based product your skin already likes, or any other brand's plain niacinamide serum. The stuff is magic for combo skin.

Hydrocolloid patches from any brand are a godsend for breakouts, and the extra-thin ones are really subtle. I just bought rainbow star ones so I'll stop forgetting I have them on.

any pearls of wisdom for someone second guessing their tags?

i think it's my biggest time sink as a tagger, and it's silly because i rarely change the core of my tag (dialogue, re/action, etc) despite the amount of overthinking i do.

Re: ASK ANON

(Anonymous) 2023-06-03 08:12 am (UTC)(link)
Ask yourself what your motivation is behind the second guessing. Is it a general sense of imposter syndrome about writing your character? Perfectionism over tone or sentence structure? Just anxiety about hitting the 'post comment' button?

That said, as a former(ish) tag overthinker I think the thing that cured me was having a thread partner who wrote me imperfect tags for a thread I was really thirsty for lmao. Don't get me wrong, their writing was excellent but there were always the odd typos and occasional wonky sentence structure... and I realized I didn't give a shit because I was enjoying our thread so much. So I just cut loose with worrying about my own typos and writing weirdness and focused on tagging back faster, because my writing partners probably would rather have my slightly wonky tags 2-3 times a day than once every three days after a lot of polishing and editing.

ty for the reply, anon!

i think framing it as imposter syndrome is probably helpful as it is a lot about characterization. my current character is somewhat out of my usual wheelhouse, so i sometimes feel like i have no idea what i'm doing or have this general feeling akin to a kid playing at adult. (did i just describe imposter syndrome........)

Re: ASK ANON

(Anonymous) 2023-06-03 09:17 am (UTC)(link)
I think you just did...

Do you think canon reviewing or reading up on the character would help? Whether that's doing some research into their job or rereading the wiki page for the series, or maybe even some fanfic that you like for characterization purposes? Maybe you could do some of those '100 questions to ask about my character' memes to kind of get the brain thinking about the different ways they would react in different situations.

But also! It isn't all that important, so long as you're having fun, your thread partners are having fun, and you're feeling about as reasonably IC as you can be! Heck, even if your characterization is wonky, is the thread still going in a good direction? If so, then (easier said than done) it's fine!!

try to imagine your character saying the dialogue, if possible, in their voice

if it sounds plausible hit send, the rest of your tag is just fine
