This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

I know

I guess with FF7 stuff coming out I've been thinking about it again. But this is such a well known character it's intimidating.

Any advice for things to do or avoid doing? Not sure if pre or post Crisis Core yet (sorry).

play according to what you see in official sources, not what people say is official. i’ve seen so many people spread info that is basically fanon or like 80% headcanon and treat it like it’s canon. i feel like with vii in particular this is bad just because the series has had so much staying power so a lot of people have spent a lot of time with the game/world/characters and start forgetting what’s canon and what’s interpretation. talking mostly about fandom here, not really rp

otherwise, use crisis core as your base since that’s him at his most sane and works as a foundation for vii or remake sephy (we have very little on remake so tbh you’d be leaning hard on vii and cc anyway) also, and this might seem counter to what i said above, but it might help to look into the fan translation of the jp script because the original translation is pretty, which means it loses some nuance especially with some of the more convoluted plot lines

other than that, just have fun! figure out the parts of him you like as a character and what you want to do with him

figure out what parts of the character you're most interesting in exploring and lean into those for what parts of canon you work with most. Advent Children Sephiroth is a different beast from Crisis Core is a different beast from Dissidia _{also if you do dissidia come rp with me, you are a unicorn}
