I'm really into the idea of betas as flexible rather than neuter, and also beta as a spectrum rather than a static midpoint.

Also, betas having pseudo heats/ruts if they're sufficiently close to an omega or alpha partner, kind of like how the partner of a pregnant woman can have sympathetic pregnancy symptoms. Here you are, you've been hormonally stable all your life, but surprise, you are not spared biological shenanigans!

Kamigami no Asobi

Since the premise is Zeus put a bunch of gods into jamjar school to learn humanity or else they're stuck there forever, you can adjust it from Zeus grabbing characters and force them to attend school to learn about [important topic] if they want to return home (aka graduation). Since it's run by gods, their understanding of human school culture and events may be a little off.

i've never seen betas being treated as anything BUT boring, is the thing.

like, they're just there to make the population stable, really, meanwhile all the spice and intrigue go to alphas/omegas. betas get skimmed over and ignored, at best.

maybe it's just me, but there's nothing about any of that which would make me want to join an omegaverse game where that's your lot as a beta, tbh! i'd rather see fresh takes on all three designations than settle for "you get to be an ordinary background person, hooray".

- flip the hierarchy and put omegas on top. they're genetically the best choice to birth the next generation, so they deserve the power to shape society. make them badasses who can fight and win wars even while heavily pregnant.

- instead of betas being so stable as to be easily overlooked, do the opposite; if there's a severe imbalance in the alpha or omega population, betas find their bodies changing against their will to "address" the issue. have everyone assume they're gentle and unassuming to the point of discrimination, and show the impact of that.

- put alphas closer to the bottom. make them both demonized for a perceived lack of self-control (oh those alphas, they're helpless to their instincts!) but also eroticized for being so "wild".

just some ideas off the top of my head, bc what i like about omegaverse is the interplay of weird biology and fucked-up social dynamics

with these suggestions, you don't want to play an omegaverse game. you want a different dynamic. if betas swing either way, then they aren't betas. they're part frog waiting for the imbalance to determine their gender. omegas and alphas have a specific dichotomy, and while it's not exactly great for some, it is one of the draws for the meme/concept. erasing that to make your own omegaverse, but with blackjack and hookers defeats the purpose of a game based around the concept. it's like making a horror game, but you're not really into horror, so it's really a smut game in halloweentown or something.

nah friendo, that's a huge reach. omegaverse is more flexible than you're giving it credit for, and can come in many flavors!

not saying that anyone making an a/b/o game is obliged to accept all those suggestions, but it is a game that people will play in so if it accepts apps for all three roles, they should all have interesting roles to play. if that means adding a few out of the norm twists, that's fine.

or the game could just accept alpha and omega apps and handwave betas as npcs.

nah, there's a big difference between 'lol my character is mocking the fictional nature of yours, whilst being just as fictional' and this premise

I know omegaverse is flexible, but these suggestions are a complete reversal of a vast majority of the content out there. This would be more of a subversion than an actual omegaverse game. Which, if that's what you want to make or play in, that's fine! But it wouldn't be what I want to play in when I think of an omegaverse game.

I think something more interesting could be done with betas, too, but I'd rather not see them be a flexible/"any role" option. Part of the appeal of omegaverse is being stuck with the role you got and having to deal with that at a societal level, and if a decent chunk of the game was allowed to just change their role whenever they felt like it and play a temporary non-committal version of both alphas and omegas it would dilute the setting I think. I'd be fine with just not having betas or keeping them as NPCs, tbh.

i don't mind the beta idea, i'd rather have the more common alpha/omega roles than putting that big of a twist on them though. i want my omega getting bought at an auction and bred.

npcs are a good idea. 'characters are brought here to fulfill the out of control breeding roles, all the natives are betas who are above your horny nonsense' is fine.

"fourth walling is common and expected" what? it's never been like that in my experience. only a few very specific canons had that expectation, like sherlock holmes, and even then the characters would know the books, not cucumber/rdj. idk where the horror thing you mention comes from either.

telling your character "you're fictional in my world/i know your life" has never been popular. what people tolerate is:

-characters like deadpool, monika, and the gintama cast, who do generic comments that the other characters just ignore and/or express confusion about. for example deadpool asking "have you seen stewart or mcavoy?" or monika saying "i hope my username is cute"

-knowing historical people, just not the precise canon (so for example american characters know who Alexander Hamilton is, they won't know the musical version of the story; same for know the names from Fate/ but not fate itself)

-same as above for famous myths. Merlin, Thor and Lok, the guys from Rise of the Guardians never, they were all ok with recognizing the names from the stories just not their canons

-when it comes to big names in pop culture, some players don't mind using the myth rule from above, like i said at first with Sherlock. sherlock players usually were fine with it because Sherlock himself is famous in world and he assumes they read Watson's blog, or that he publishes a book, etc. i knew a pokemon cast that was fine with recognizing only the creatures.

god when i was super into DBD I had a game in my head like half planned out it was gonna take beats from The Games where there would be down time but once a month or so everyone would get dropped into murder arenas and players didn't get to pick who they were in arenas with and to keep people from ganging up killers vs survivors during the other half of the game i would have people write up killer personas for their characters and they'd never know if they were gonna be the killer or survivor.

so it'd be one half murder game one half jamjar survival game bc the rest of the time they'd just be in this shitty town or something where the entity dropped them and they have to cobble together an existence

tbh i loved how prisma handled their beta-equivalent in the game. they were just endlessly horny without any specific dominant/submissive traits. simple, but effective.

how do i enjoy talking about a shared fandom/threads with people without them thinking that we're close friends?

there's no way to describe oneself this way without sounding narcissistic but w/e, it's anon and this is what i've been told. i'm generally very energetic, enthusiastic, warm, open, funny. that kind of person. irl i've been told i'm charismatic. but the flipside is that honestly with some people i just want to be able to plot new stuff/coordinate threads/talk about our threads, and keep conversation to rp, without them seeing me as a super close friend within literally a week or less of talking to them.

i repeatedly have this issue where i try to keep conversation just to shared stuff we're doing because i love plotting and tend to be more of a planner as opposed to someone who shoots from the hip/wings it in threads, but in doing so even though i'm not really gushing about my personal life or anything people will decide that we're like... best buddies, or will describe us as friends within days of meeting me, and not in the casual way like 'oh, i have a friend who plays x', like... legit description as friends, when i still very much feel like we're strangers and barely know them. i establish rapport with strangers really easily and i feel like a lot of times people take that as "we've known each other forever".

i don't want to reshape my personality to be cold to people or rude and dismissive. i'm just naturally very chatty and open, and even when i was in customer service people would just unsolicited tell me all kinds of crazy details about their lives in ways that they didn't with my coworkers; generally i'm the same level of friendly with my coworkers as i am with people here. how do i gently maintain boundaries without being like "no actually we aren't friends, we just met", etc with people who i enjoy rp with/think are decent, but don't really want any deeper attachment to?

hoping people will give genuine advice here and not like, project or call me a terrible person or something. i just don't know how to balance being my authentic self with maintaining casual relationships with hobby partners, and i don't want people to feel too close in case down the road my whole reason for talking to them - our shared activity we're coordinating - ceases to be. thank you guys for any insight.
