we're all cringe here

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not post personal information. This includes but is not limited to full names, addresses, phone numbers and so on.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

What exactly does an underwriter do? I feel like I've heard of this job a couple of times but am not sure what it entails.

Are the benefits really as good as people say they are?

1) yes
2) no and i had to have a staff member escort me to the bathroom. they didn't go into the bathroom with me but i had to leave the door cracked while they stood outside and listened to make sure i wasn't trying to kill/hurt myself in the bathroom.
3) the first day, no. on day 1, i wasn't allowed to have any personal belongings or talk to any family/friends. i was allowed to use the hospital's landline to call into work though. but on the second day, they let me have my phone and on the third day they let me have a visitor.

Yes and no. They brainwashed us into thinking they were the best you could get as a way of keeping us there. They often told us we wouldn't find better benefits elsewhere....that was a lie. For example my max coverage amount for the same dental company there was 900$ and at my new commercial job it is 2000$. It actually made me really depressed because i thought it was the best I could ever hope for. They DO have more auxiliary benefits like gym reimbursement, and the benefits are like...better than getting no benefits. We didn't have any kind of retirement matching at all. I was in a very liberal state.
Overall, just look for a company known for decent benefits. It is NOT worth it.

also i wasn't locked in but my room was right by a main hallway in a crowded area. if i left the room on my own, even just to pee, id definitely get seen by the nurses or somebody else and threatened with arrest for "trying to escape".

Re: ... WALMART EMPLOYEE

(Anonymous) 2023-05-09 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
Besides the obvious after the holidays things go on clearance thing, you are able to get a product cheaper with the online price. But there are a few catches.

Let's say a hair dryer in store costs $64 but when you look up the same item online, it says $54. Naturally, you want it for $54. You can ask the cashier or self-check out if you can price match this item online.

The approvals to a YES on price matching are the following things:

1. On the website, it has to say "PICK UP TODAY @ [YOUR LOCAL WALMART HERE]" if it says "PICK UP NOT AVAILABLE" or "PICK UP TOMORROW", they will not price match. That is the walmart.com's way of trying to get you to use their website and make money.

2. On the website, it has to say "Shipped by WALMART". If it's being shipped by a third party, we will not price match.

3. The item CAN NOT be on rollback or clearance. Again, that's walmart.com making you order online and they are doing a special kind of sale online.

If all of these checks out, then usually the cashier, self check out, team lead, will override the item to the online price.

I say usually because not all Walmarts will do this. Some stores are just assholes and won't do it regardless.

And speaking of clearance items, be wary when you get meat that is on clearance. Not many know this but if a meat is on clearance, it means it's about to expire either the same day or the next day. So you better eat it ASAP or you'll have a bad time.

i've struggled with passive suicidal for thoughts for literally as long as i can remember (my earliest memory is telling my mom i wished i was dead, at age four). but for most of my life, this didn't end up spilling over into actually making an attempt or having a plan to kill myself. then one day in my mid 20s a bad break-up, a job loss and a relapse into an old addiction all happened within literal days of each other and it pushed me to the point where i started making actual concrete plans in my head of how i would kill myself. that freaked me out enough to call a suicide hotline, except i made the mistake of calling 911 first and asked to be transferred because i couldn't remember the hotline number. except the 911 operator, while they did transfer me, they also sent cops to my house (unbeknownst to me) who told me i had to go to the hospital with them and had no choice. i honestly wish id just looked up the number on my phone like a smart person because then i could've avoided all of this.

Re: ...INSURANCE UNDERWRITER

(Anonymous) 2023-05-09 05:50 am (UTC)(link)
The main part of the job is risk evaluation, and then provide the terms for cover. Say you wanted to insure your house and contents, an underwriter would look at the location for flood risks or subsidence, construction for fire risks, local crime rates etc. and be the one to decide what a fair premium would be to cover it. We’d also decide if there were any special terms to apply, for example if you lived in a shared space we might say we’ll only cover theft if there’s forced entry, not if someone forgets to lock the door.

I only look at businesses, not private lines of insurance, but that’s the easy example.

no. most canons other issues are going on so sometimes there just isn't time. if the character is played ooc inside the ship I'd probably consider it being ooc? like someone focused and calm suddenly being all horny all the time. that happens on memes and is fine, but yeah it's ooc.

Prospective law school applicant here.

Is getting into law school hard? What kind of things (other than a high GPA and good LSAT score, which are obvious) make somebody a competitive applicant? Any tips?

Yes! I was really excited to see more of the underworld brothers as, well, brothers and see Ouken's origins.

The previous episode about Hiling was really good, too, I thought! I'm hoping we get some stories about the Big Four soon.

Is getting into law school hard?
depends on where you're aiming. t14? yes. everywhere else? ehhhhh.

What kind of things (other than a high GPA and good LSAT score, which are obvious) make somebody a competitive applicant?
the usual bs. good personal statement, personalized recommendation letters.

Any tips?
- make sure you really want to go to law school, specifically, and it's not just a placeholder for three years of your life while you figure yourself out. unless you're a supergenius or you're in an incredibly stable position both emotionally and financially, law school stress's nothing to fuck with.

- if you get offers from multiple schools (and you should, b/c you should be scoring high enough to be getting vouchers for a swathe of schools), pick the one that's gonna pay you to attend unless the alternative is like ten ranks higher.

- do not choose schools by how well-regarded their specialised programs (legal writing, ip, international law, w/e) are. look at two stats: (1) job placement by graduation and (2) overall ranking in the USNWR over the last decade. lawyers are (and i say this with equal parts fondness and contempt) fucking snobs about their schools.

- pick your law school assuming that you're gonna be locked into practicing in that geographic region. it's not always true (especially if you place high enough or you already know people in the industry), but it's something that i, personally, wish that i had considered.

- listen to this song, because every lawyer to whom i've ever played this song has listened and nodded glumly: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xs-UEqJ85KE

they say most law school students enter with ambitions to practise human rights and social justice defence but get beaten down into a corporate specialization by mid-L2. did that happen to you? how'd end up in your specialty?

did that happen to you?
nope. i was a corporate sellout when i started law school.

how'd end up in your specialty?
> hate arguing with people, so no family or insurance law
> never been on time even once in my life, so no litigation generally
> no science background, so no patents

having to work around my own character flaws narrowed down the field nicely for me early on.
