it's only fun if your cr is happy to join in. i've seen wedding posts that got very few tag ins from the invited friends and it was so awkward.

the best thing to do is to turn it into a party log and give people reasons to tag in that aren't just "watch some characters exchange vows".

this is a me problem alone, but man, i wish i was ballsy enough to ask for an invite to a game where i know no one. i just don't want to ask and be rejected so i'll sit here at the windows, nose pressed against it, hoping someone i know gets an invite so i can ask them for an invite.

try doing it on a day when your confidence levels are a bit higher, anon. you really have nothing to lose. even assuming they have to reject you, remember it's mostly because their policies are strict, or they're near cap for the number of characters or players they can take.

when you do pm to ask for an invite, tailor the request a bit: mention why the game interests you for the character you're considering, or anything that suggests why you're genuinely eager to join this specific setting. unless you have a background of wanky behavior, they'll more than likely let you in, if they have openings.

I think it would be neat if a character had crosscanon CR with another that started out by thinking they look/act/sound like their friend/nemesis/whoever and things evolve into a ship later. Especially if it's cross-medium where a character from a multimedia series or something with a live action/animated adaptation meets another character that resembles their canon CR. Like Harry Potter with one of the Now You See Me magicians and such.

Your game has interest checks but not reserves. On an interest check a few months after your game opens a player of Bob Punchkick had posted and tagged around. Their canonmates Suzy Slapkiss and James Hopskip were also on the interest check. The already sizeable in game cast was excited as these are all well loved characters in Hopscotch Warriors.

Applications are first come first serve. You get three Bob Punchkiss applications in the first minute. You accept the first one who happened to be the one on the interest check.

It turns out James doesn't know the first Bob but is friends with the third Bob. James is really upset their Bob didn't make it and refuses to tag the Bob in game which puts Suzy in an especially bad position as Bob and James are her in canon best friends.

Bob feels like James is trying to force them to drop, Suzy is upset she's being put in the middle of this, and James insists they shouldn't have to tag someone they don't want to and says they have friends who have had poor experiences with Bob previously and so don't want to play with them. None of them are breaking any explicitly listed game rules.

What do you do? Assuming you can't institute reserves or whatever.
