give us this day our daily bait

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not post personal information. This includes but is not limited to full names, addresses, phone numbers and so on.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

i mean this in the kindest possible way: the thing youre scared of is the equivalent of a person being afraid to go to a local convenience store for snacks because what if someone else in the same store disliked those snacks.

the kind of person who would keep track of who guessed wrong about their unstated hidden preferences on a bakerstreet meme is the kind of person who would be laughed out of wankgate, much less anywhere saner and nicer.

nobody would be on that guy's side except their closest buttlickers.

there is no downside. tag fearlessly.

DA, but I can understand the OP's anxiety if they were around a few years ago. I got some weirdly hostile responses for tagging cross-medium/canon back in the earlier days of meme RP, but I tag out probably more often now than I did then and haven't run into any attitudes like that anytime recently. IDK what changed exactly, but no one's seemed to have an issue and I've had a few people even go out of their way to express excitent about particularly fun character combos before the scene.

Maybe there was only ever one or two people really really opposed to crossovers and they quit? Or at least quit complaining about getting tags they weren't interested in.

a few years ago? pandemic era or pre-pandemic? i wasn't on bs often pre-pandemic, but i've never met anyone outright hostile to crosscanon interactions on dwrp, just those unwilling to play it. i've always been under the impression that dwrp culture as a whole is more inclined toward cross-canon play, even if our bigger panfandom games are gone now. granted, it may just be the case that we are the same bitches with better communication skills now, but if you told me this before the pandemic, circa 2015-ish, i would have had trouble believing it wasn't a one-off weirdo.

tbh i think meme play was more hostile in general years ago. there's not as much tolerance for that kind of petty bullying now

ayrt, and this would've been pre-pandemic by several years. it definitely wasn't a common occurrence, just a couple incidents that stuck out as odd reactions and one person who seemed to be so embarrassed I'd tagged them that they PMed me asked me to delete my comment. nothing particularly upsetting or anywhere near harassment, just a handful of things that confused me a lot before i figured out canon/medium-crossing was even something people had preferences about.

they probably were just one-off weirdos I ran into, but there were just more of them to run into back then because there was more of everyone.

ayrt!

ah yeah, that is a little strange. i guess being in a game at the time insulated me from the worst of it? glad the meme environment seems a bit more settled than it was a couple years ago, apparently. i just got back into rp this year and it's been fun slapping my characters into bakerstreet. i feel like i'm about at the same level of activity that i was way back when except without an activity check hanging over my head. feels good man :)

i was pretty clueless about what dwrp norms were at the time, so i probably was stepping on toes with enthusiasm that'd be easy to mistake for pushiness. i also mostly played women in the days when "cockhop" got unironically slung around as an insult.

combine those with tagging out as the "wrong" "tier" of character/canon and i can understand a nervous player, especially probably one young enough for highschool to have been a recent memory having a "omg, don't talk to me where the cool kids might see us!" type response to being tagged by a Not Cool Enough character/player. it was a little ego-bruising and it took the wind out of my rp-motivation sails for a week or two, but i get it.

that kind of attitude seems rare to nonexistent now and I can't remember the last time someone seemed hostile or bothered by a tag. these days, people just seem jazzed at the opportunity to RP regardless of who we're logged in as.
i don't get bites on every xcanon tag out, but i seem to be doing something right since the only "problem" i run into now wrt to tagouts is sometimes getting more responses than i was expecting and losing track of threads.
