i'm sorry, anon. that's a tough spot to be in. do you think it might be worth trying to reach out oocly and say you're feeling a bit stranded with your character as a result of this, or is it at the point where they'd band oocly to tell you why it's absolutely impossible for them to consider any kind of armistice, because a/b/c?

my thinking is, if they expend so much of their energy hating your character or making that be their ic social glue, losing your character if you drop would actually set back their cr. so they'd have an incentive to keep your character around.

i get the feeling that it's the only thing they're interested in relating to my character! they all have a much more extensive cr circle than i do so i think they would be fine if i dropped, they'd just miss out on the drama of having someone to really hate, i guess. i did reach out a bunch in the beginning but they were never really interested in coming up with anything that might have any sort of a progression beyond "they hate him" and i've burned out on chasing them so am leaving the ball in their court. plus when he was in direct contact with them they sabotaged/ruined some of his other crosscanon cr and to be honest i'm scared of that happening again somehow. so all of that's made me back off and i guess strand myself more which i'll acknowledge doesn't help things.

i don't really even think they don't mean well honestly, i think this is just fun for them and they're not really thinking about the person behind the character (me). i am sort of able to still have fun/not want to drop by just pretending they're not in game so i think i'll probably stick around as long as i can keep that going.

that might be your best bet. if they start getting too invasive with respect to your crosscanon cr, do reach out oocly, though, and tell them politely that you need accommodation. the players of villains should still get to, well, play.

they sound like thoughtless babies only interested in their own fun, to be honest. i'm guessing their excuses for not budging from "they hate him" was something about how they're powerless to the whims of their characters? (which, for anyone reading, is a red flag for lack of ic/ooc divide)

my advice is to start cutting down your character's interactions with theirs, and giving them less avenues to disrupt you without warning. emphasize in plot posts that you want to explore your villain's growth.

if they tag your ooc plot posts with how they want their character to demonize or derail yours, tell them politely that you're not interested rehashing the same plot beats. if they make a habit of derailing your ic plot posts, then write closed top levels to the cr you want to write with instead.

if you have told someone that you are not interested in playing a particular scenario and they still try to push it on you, then take it to the mods.

ngl this sounds like they hate you for whatever reason and is trying to use your character as an excuse. you may not have done anything, but if they're excluding you that much just for your character, they probably hate that character enough to treat you the same.

i would just look for another game. this kind of borders bullying if it's not outright doing it and saying it's for ic reasons, especially if they're planning on recruiting others to do the same.

this is so unnecessary lol. op probably just plays a character that rubs people the wrong way and none of their castmates want to get accused of being ooc if they ease up on a villain, and are being thoughtless in how they handle it.

if op is genuinely playing a villain char who's meant to be on grey terms with the other castmates, and it's getting played across the board as "they hate him", that is a problem imo

+1 big leap to go from "characters have ic reasons not to want to associate with a villain character" to "they specifically hate you, the player".

speaking as a former villain player, this is a common problem. it's very unlikely that everyone who encounters it is just hated by the cast.

i'm sorry, op, it doesn't sound like they're being good team players. this has also happened to me before and the most frustrating part was that my canonmates had tons of mixed/positive cr with crosscanon characters who were worse villains than mine, which made it feel like something was wrong with Me, Specifically, especially when whenever i asked the message i got was that it was just an IC choice, although they were happy to use me to generate drama of the week for their characters :/

honestly this is hard to weigh in on without knowing the canon or what the villain did. it's hard for people to icly justify their character being okay with someone who murdered everyone's families, for instance.

this. i play a villain who is hated by the entire cast for very good reasons. that's not people being mean to him or to me, that's "he literally ruined all of these people's lives and caused the deaths of people they cared about."

you are not your characters though. players still have to communicate with the villain's player. derailing cr for the drama without giving them a heads up or seeing if the player they have cr with even wants to know is shitty.

I play a lawful good type character that has really deeply interesting cr with a few villains/morally dubious characters. they are either keeping their terribleness on the down low, worming their way into my guy's good graces to manipulate him, or are slowly (a year+ of ic) turning over a new leaf.

if the villains were outed from the get go, I would have had none of that, and it would be pretty boring.

i agree with the derailing other cr point though. op, you should go to the mods of your game about that, it's not cool and i think most mods would look into it.

I know another anon did elsewhere but it's not productive to conflate other comments into a thread that isn't even close to saying that all OP's castmates hate them. It is crappy behavior on the part of those castmates to scuttle other CR that the OP has, and if someone behaves that way, eventually the mun whose character is the victim of that might stop pursuing them. That is a fairly proportional consequence to ruining other people's CR.

i feel like this is a case where it really, really depends on just what the villain did in their canon and how they would behave when removed from their canon.

like, if the villain from one of my characters' canons showed up in his game, he'd probably agree to a truce just because 1) he and the villain had been colleagues at one point in time and still have a base level of mutual respect for each other, 2) there's no reason for the villain to be doing villainous things outside of the canon setting, and 3) the villain isn't the power-hungry, malicious sort but rather someone who truly thought they were doing the right thing and justified all of the bad things they did in the name of that. he'd likely not out the villain to everyone because he'd be willing to give them a chance and see what they did in the game first.

but the villain from another character's canon? yeah, my guy would be warning everyone he knew right off the bat because that villain is crazy and evil and would be dangerous to others.

i've run into way too many people of the 'my blorbo did nothing wrong' variety who tried to woobify their fave villains to just immediately take them at their word

"My castmates not liking my villain character means they're OOC" could be the truth of things, or it could be based on nothing but fanon spun up by people who just can't accept that their fave villain has done horrible shit and isn't owed forgiveness by the rest of their cast.
