"why don't you just change something you like so it's more palatable to general audiences" is how we've gotten to the glut of boring samey interchangeable homogenous modern dwrp games

changing a character's appearance just so it's easier to find a PB is honestly not going to do the OC any favors if they're that malleable or ambiguous.

imo a good character design should have some immediate distinguishing feature that tells you a bit about them just from looking at their face. do they have a weathered expression, scars or marks? perhaps they've been through some hardships. do they have extravagant jewelry, fine clothes, well-kept hair? perhaps they're familiar with luxury and comforts. do they have some interesting moles or uniquely recognizable birthmark? some sci-fi prosthesis? are they fuckable? are they loaded up with piercings or just a conservative one? do they have CURSED or BABYGIRL tattooed on their forehead? maybe my character can comment on or ask about any of that.

but that's me personally, i'm drawn to more weird looking or unique characters (canon or oc).

why don't you change it so it's easier to find a pb for, not "make it more palatable", why are people so defensive

you're in control of all of your oc. you design your oc so that it's impossible to pb, then complain that you can't find icons. you could easily adjust details to fit something from an old fantasy movie or details that are more easily edited by people who take commissions, but no? ok bud

this, honestly. it's fine to have a very distinctive/unique-looking oc, but the tradeoff is that it's then either going to be a lot more work to edit icons for them or you'll have to get commissions done if you want their icons to accurately represent their appearance. that's not telling someone to "make it more palatable," that's just stating the facts. i have an oc that i don't play on dw for that very reason.

fr. i know why people make crazy looking ocs, i just don't know why people make crazy looking ocs then whine about not being able to find icons. you put the stick in your own bike wheel on that one.
