Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not post personal information. This includes but is not limited to full names, addresses, phone numbers and so on.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

da

I just don't think any "mechanic" involving AC and what threads you have is either interesting or unique. Every game involves rewarding players with positive or negative outcomes/social standing in the setting for their efforts in threads. All that "idea" is involves making the mods the middle man and mostly puts a lot of work on the mods that even in a small game is going to cause either burn out or drama.

You can't even test how the idea works on the TDM because the genre and setting can be anything and the prompts can be shit because the only idea is "look at these AC rewards".

Isn't this what Nightfell did anyway and the mods shut it down because there was so much drama over the subjective way AC was handled? AC rewards are not a mechanic.

cool ok thanks for your worthless opinion

>Every game involves rewarding players with positive or negative outcomes/social standing in the setting for their efforts in threads.

no they don't, ac in most games is just "can you stay in the game for another month"

>All that "idea" is involves making the mods the middle man and mostly puts a lot of work on the mods that even in a small game is going to cause either burn out or drama.

depends on the mods/game/players

>AC rewards are not a mechanic.

yes they are

How do you test drive a mechanic like that? Honest question, because if someone was going to make a game like this you want people to be able to test out the setting to see if they enjoy it. Other mechanics are things you can mess with on your own, but this requires direct mod intervention to reap any benefits and requires you to have cr, so anyone brand new isn't going to be able to interact with it.

The point is that on its own AC rewards are just AC rewards and not something you can build an entire concept around.

i mean, you just run the game for a few months and if the mechanic works and people enjoy it then keep it. if it doesn't, rework it or remove it and do something else.

you seem to be looking for reasons to shit on this idea because you personally don't like it. if you don't want to be in a game like this or run a game like this then just.. don't?

I'm wanting to see if anyone can explain how this is any different from anything that already exists.

Running a game for a few months isn't useful to a new player who wants to see if the game is a good fit for them, because you could have great cr and be earning points left and right, but someone else might not have the same experience. Since the mechanic is an AC reward and mod controlled, how could they know?

There have been numerous games with cr bonds as a significant mechanic and this sounds exactly the same but with the mods assigning point values to relationships and cr, turning something you could control yourself into one the mods have to hand out to people. It creates a bottleneck where people have to wait for the mods to give them something instead of creating a mechanic that players can pick up and use themselves with or without direct oversight and input from the mods.

If you don't like people asking questions like this, you're going to hate it when you make an interest check and people tell you your mechanic isn't unique to your setting or they ask how you're planning to keep it going without the mods absolutely burning out in three months in this climate where modding is even more thankless and soul sucking than it's ever been before.

this kind of thing is why it's better to hash stuff out between excited parties not on rpa

If the reaction to someone asking fair questions about an idea is "we should've kept this to an echo chamber" that's not great either.

someone's always going to think x idea is boring or dumb or whatever, there's enough people here that there can't not be someone who isn't interested, and anons love to tell people they don't like chips rly

soliciting ideas here isn't totally worthless but the longer the conversation carries on the better the chance someone'll pop up with an essay about how popcorn is the way to go

I don't think anything is being asked that aren't reasonable questions a prospective mod team should already be thinking about because potential players will probably ask these things too.

no one wants to listen to your shitty opinions because 1. this is just a brainstorming thread and 2. you're an asshole

Extremely mature behavior from someone who will probably handle being told their threads aren't worthy of points like an adult, I'm sure.

"reasonable questions" is code for "i want to be a snotty asshole and not get called out for it"

sounds a lot like tai in this thread right now honestly

there was someone on wankgate recently bragging about how much they love to take big steamy dumps in workshopping threads on rpa so this is probably them
