Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not post personal information. This includes but is not limited to full names, addresses, phone numbers and so on.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

"And sometimes that can get real stressful, particularly if your RP partner doesn't have any/many other threads they're playing and wants you to tag back faster than you already are."

this is what has made me very wary of doing psls with anyone i don't know well, honestly. i have had a couple of people get unhinged at me when i wasn't tagging them back fast enough for their taste because they weren't rping anything else outside of the psls and maybe a couple of meme threads. (and we're not talking about taking a week or more to tag, i was tagging them back every couple of days, just not every SINGLE day.)

Yuppppp exactly this. I've had some really great PSLs that were a lot of fun, but I've also wound up in shitty situations where people were getting mad because I didn't RP for an entire weekend and they wanted tags. It's just so much easier to deal with when you're not someone's one and only dopamine fix.

it's always distressing to hear stuff like this. i get tag thirst and all, but man why can't people in this hobby be sane about tags

And then there's the ones who get mad you're tagging other people when they aren't even tagging you. I had a psl partner get mad at me about two or three years back when I talked about an event thread from a game we didn't share that I was enjoying on plurk. We didn't have any threads going at the time because she had gotten very busy with work for a few months and hadn't been able to tag me back.

It was weird.

funny enough this is why I primarily psl with anon randos only, because if they get weirdly demanding or unhinged it'll be over dm and I can just ignore the message and drop the thread and call it a day. and i don't have to deal with seeing one of my plurk friends gushing about their other tags while leaving our threads untouched for weeks (or vice versa) and having Feelings about it

i think you're hitting on the critical point here: there are different types of psl players. some play in psls in addition to playing in games, while others only play in psls and memes. the disconnect happens when people bring different tag response time expectations and assume their counterparty shares them — aka, you assume you're both in it for a casual pace, they assume you are down to clown and tag once or multiple times a day. you both get frustrated with each other's tagging expectations.

tbh this is why i think it's important to be clear with people from get-go, especially if you don't know them very well, what your tagging availability for the psl is going to be like. then everyone's on the same page and you can self-select out if it doesn't look as if expectations will match. everyone's prefered tagging speed is valid, no need to shame you for needing a few days to tag back, or them for wanting to boomerang.

i think being clear from the beginning helps both sides curb expectations that dont end up reflecting a threads actual speed. someone faster can look for extra threads instead of investing in only a couple of threads, someone slower doesnt have to feel pressured to rush tags or worry they arent fast enough

see, i disagree. i don't think that expecting someone to tag every single day and proceeding to get upset if they don't (but are still tagging back consistently and relatively quickly) is reasonable or valid. people aren't fun dispensers here to dispense rp on demand, they're human beings with lives. you can be loving a thread but have a headache or get stuck in traffic for an hour on the way home from work or have to take your cat to the emergency vet and end up just really not feeling tags that day.

wanting a partner who tags fast in general, sure. but people also need to step back and realize that sometimes it's not all about you. heck, my gf and i are in three games together and have multiple psls and even then we don't always necessarily tag each other every day.

i read ayrt as meaning everyones preferences are valid and if preferences dont align, look elsewhere rather than expecting someone else to change what theyre doing for you

i think that goes both ways, honestly? if someone tags faster and has to slow down for you it isnt a good match, but it isnt a good match if someone slower has to speed up to match you either. i think its reasonable to tell someone step back if their partner having one bad day is enough to upset them (or even three bad days, or a bad week) but if thats happening consistently and the other person cant take it then the end result is still that its a bad match and one or both should move on

my overall feeling is its important to find people who can thread with you at a pace youre comfortable with and enjoy. if they dont, both parties should move onto something else
