Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not post personal information. This includes but is not limited to full names, addresses, phone numbers and so on.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

nah, i play in murdergames and 1-2 hours a day is plenty to be active in a murdergame outside of saturday trials

I've never played or even looked into a murder game before. What makes them more time consuming than other games?

fast-paced tagging with weekly AC usually equal to what most games ask for over the course of a month (or more). events that take place on fridays and saturdays (investigations and trials) usually last a few hours each and it's expected that you'll be present and participating in them and they often aren't backtagged

high speed and high intensity for about five to eight weeks basically

"a few hours" is underselling it, trials last anywhere from 6-9 hours depending on the game and case. investigations can also be during trial, so its possible to only have a block on saturdays if the game doesnt do threaded executions (usually on sunday).

mind, you're not expected to be there for all of sat (but a lot of people are), though you are expected to participate in some form.

there's a reason people disappear from other rp venues during murder games. if you don't show up a lot to them you really don't get your money's worth

i've never been in a game that groups investigations with trials or does threaded executions so yeah, a few hours is pretty average in my experience. bigger events like final player trials and game finales might run longer but in the games i run in nine hours would be a huge outlier.

not to say that this being typical in other games is bad or wrong obviously since a longer trial makes sense if investigations and trials happen back to back. but (again ime) a trial going on for more than six hours without a wrap up in sight usually means something got fucked up somewhere

da and yeah i can only think of a few trials i've been in that ran that long and that was usually either because the characters went the wrong direction ic or the players got distracted/voted to take a break ooc. ime they're almost always done in five-six hours.

some of the games i've played in even had set ending times for the trials, too, where the characters had to vote regardless of whether they'd been able to solve the murder or not.

i'll never forget my only ten hour trial. we were going around in circles forever because the culprit didn't show up until about seven hours in 😩

fwiw, the ones that have investigations and trials going at the same time have a hard cut-off time of getting votes in by [insert time, usually like 8 est] and run on a scapegoat format instead of mass exe where getting the culprit is required to actually finish a trial. other scapegoat games without that same-day mechanic have a hard cutoff voting time.

usually seven hours is my "hmm something is amiss" alarm. there's only so much wheel spinning that can go on without people getting discouraged

Because of the condensed time frame (murders happen every Thursday night, investigations happen Friday, trial Saturday, and then it repeats again the next week), you're pretty much encouraged to keep making new threads as new developments happen. It's not like you have to finish threads the day you start them, but if you make a thread on Tuesday of Billy talking to Sally about how Bob has been acting weird, and then on Saturday it turns out Bob murdered Debra, then the old thread is outdated after just a few days and you'll probably need a new one talking about what happened at the trial. Because things just keep happening in murdergames, people tend to keep taking for longer each day to get threads done in a timely manner.

For comparison, when I play in a murdergame I usually do around 200 tags in a week between all the various threads across different days. From what I have heard from my other murdergame friends, that's about the average too.
