but my main character syndrome

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not post personal information. This includes but is not limited to full names, addresses, phone numbers and so on.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

Murdergames and ECATS-style games where everybody is boomeranging short tags can easily consume several hours a day, but most of the games I've been have been more like ~1 hour of active tagging 5-6 days a week. I write tags in my head when I'm working/driving/cooking/etc. so typing them up doesn't take too much time. I prefer slower games and prose tags, though.

I love the daydream phrase of a tag-in-process. :)

I do a lot of my tag brainstorming while falling asleep too, the same way I used to tell myself bedtime stories as a kid.

i've been doing this for years! sometimes i'll go right to bed if i get a late tag so i can visualize the scene in various ways

then in the morning i write what i liked best!

or sometimes i just replay the entire thread in my mind, especially the dropped ones lol

It's also a healthy sleep hygiene habit to have a period of time set aside for "wakeful resting" (aka not actively reading or watching something) and just giving your body/mind time to relax .

It's kind of an emotional heat sink for an active imagination (directing thoughts into something pleasant instead of keeping yourself up worrying about stuff) and a signal to your body that it's time to sleep.

Surprise, some of our quirks are actually really good for us!

oh same here! i also spend a lot of time daydreaming about where the thread might go and playing out various possible scenarios in my head

I use a lot of my dropped threads as jumping off points for new internal "adventures." Some have gotten a lot longer and complex than what started them!

did you miss the in my head part

ayrt

(Anonymous) 2023-01-24 03:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope. That's still distracted driving. Not trying to be wanky, I just don't think it's a good idea to fluff around with driving safety, since it involves sharing the road with other people.

Re: ayrt

(Anonymous) 2023-01-24 03:06 pm (UTC)(link)
anon, it's totally normal to think about things other than driving while driving

Re: ayrt

(Anonymous) 2023-01-24 03:08 pm (UTC)(link)
For sure! But I don't think that thinking about what you need to get at the grocery store is the same as actively fantasizing story scenarios

Re: ayrt

(Anonymous) 2023-01-24 03:10 pm (UTC)(link)
ok, but you're assuming a ton of things that aren't necessarily true and don't deserve this level of concern

Re: ayrt

(Anonymous) 2023-01-24 03:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Aren't you doing the same?

This may out me (but w/e) but I was a victim of this type of distracted driving. Someone ran through a red light and T-boned me, causing my SUV to roll three times. I have permanent hip and knee injuries that I deal with on a daily basis (this happened 10 years ago). So I don't think it's unreasonable to ask someone to not be in their head while driving, or at least be more mindful about it?

da

Some people focus better on a task when they do one thing and think about something else. If I think about something or sing with my music, I keep my eyes on the road and my mind doesn't wander. If you ask me to 100% focus on one thing I WILL get distracted and have a problem.

eh, i agree that ayrt is probably making assumptions and reacting accordingly. but tbf accidents that occur from people fantasizing is fairly common, at least where i'm from. and that's data which has only taken from those that admit it.

accusing op of being that oblivious is probably not the right approach, but i can see why they'd wanna spread awareness on the issue

you're a fucking idiot and if you can't drive without ONLY thinking about the next turn all the time, nothing but the directions OMFG CAN'T THINK ABOUT TV OR DINNER OR ANYTHING ELSE then YOU should not fucking ever drive.

Re: ayrt

(Anonymous) 2023-01-24 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
honestly anon maybe you shouldn't be driving if you're gonna get super mad about someone suggesting you should focus on the road and the other people around you instead of daydreaming abt steve rogers kissing bugs bunny.
