Rundown: rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

i used to struggle with this and now i don't, and the only thing that changed is i stopped second-guessing my writing ability and started just slamming out tags

once i realized that overthinking tags doesn't actually make them better and just wastes time, i started just going with my gut instinct for tags and sticking with the first response my brain comes up with instead of second-guessing it and rewriting it multiple times. it's made my rp life so much better.

This. I've tossed out a few that I knew were duds as soon as I hit send, but I've had so many more good tags that my occasional Ralph Wiggum-y ones are easy to forget.

this. i used to get so frustrated with crafting the hell out of my tags and trying to nail down perfect snappy sentence structure and dialog and no repeating words and no funky phrasing and dangling prepositions and

it would take me literally hours to bang out a single tag (a nice long prose tag, but still)

now i polish until it's about 80% of the way there, give it a once-over to make sure there aren't any huge missing chunks and conveys everything i wanna convey, and hit send.

i'm a happier rper now that i have threads that go places and i don't get bogged down by my inane perfectionism, wasting time trying to fine polish that last 20%

exactly, any dissatisfaction i may have from posting tags that weren't 100% perfect in my eyes is more than made up for by the fact that i actually finish threads on a regular basis now and can take on more threads at a time.

oh, i still aim for it (snappy sentences and no repeating words etc.)! i just don't scour my tags anymore or fret about when things are less than perfect anymore

gosh, teach my dumbass brain the trick to this

i really want to let go of the perfectionism aspect and hit that flow again, but i’m in the trenches where even pulling together a starter gets me paralyzed in that “shit gotta crap out something interesting, what do” way of staring at blank text boxes. sucks, man!!
