Help! My rp partner hasn't invited me to play our OTP in their game! (´・ω・`)

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not post personal information. This includes but is not limited to full names, addresses, phone numbers and so on.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

Isekai protags

So against better judgment, I want to RP the protagonist of a kinda shitty isekai genre show. Guess which one!

But in general, I have two issues here

1. Dealing with being overpowered. I'm used to playing normies with no powers what so ever so I'm not really used to dealing with this kinda stuff. So anything in regulating this kinda stuff in a setting where they just can't solve every problem in a game by themselves.

2. Genre savvy stuff. DWRP already kinda isekai's existing characters into places in the first, so I'm not sure how to deal with it basically happening twice with said character.

Regarding #2, that can actually be an interesting part of choosing that kind of character to play. They have done some of the emotional work (hopefully) around their situation, and can help others process the situation. Or perhaps it's a cause for emotional distress, to not be brought back home. It's worth leaning into, IMO.

2) I actually don't think it'll be a problem as long as you don't try to godmode/4th wall break characters when they don't want to be, or otherwise use it to be right at the expense of other people's fun (e.g. raining on the parade of everyone trying to go home). It would be kinda funny if their assumptions were wrong sometimes too.

for #1, keep in mind that this isn't death battle. the game probably already has some characters who have powers and aren't solving every problem by themselves, and if you just kind of slot your guy in next to them, nobody's going to jump in on your behalf and say actually this one did a specific absurd thing in a season finale and if you do the math that means he has big number power.

1. as anon above pointed out, power levels are subjective. you might think your dude is overpowered but if their shit doesn't need to be nerfed because it wouldn't be game-breaking, they might find they're average compared to other characters. a good game would make sure no one can just solve every problem by themselves anyway. if they were really so op that they'd break the game they'd get nerfed so that solves that problem.

2. depends on the character, sure, but I enjoy playing isekai characters because it elimintes the whole where am I/why can't I go home/how is this possible dance that so many people hate because we've all been here so long we've done it a thousand times. they can shrug and go oh, another one and get on with living. it's not like knowing that you can be magically transported to other worlds puts you at an advantage over characters already in the game who, duh, have also gathered that that's possible, nor does it give your character an advantage for finding the escape, mechanism, etc. it just cuts down on the tedious song and dance routine. it also gives your character an opportunity to do the whole "well the last time this happened I blah blah and the magic blah blah" and be utterly wrong about how this jamjar works, it can make for weird and interesting CR - especially if you as a player aren't hung up on your character's past experience being solely an advantage.

Think of it like this: there's a sushi party happening. Your character says oh, I've had sushi before, it's great, but they've only ever eaten california roll. They're presented with a platter of eel and octopus nigiri. Think of all the shenanigans you can roll with, positive and negative. Isekais in a jamjar are like that. At worst they might make an idle comment about being through this before and no one picks up on the hook, and everybody gets on with their lives, and honestly that's not a terrible thing if it literally ends up a non-starter.
