questions from your new shy but enthusiastic rp partner who likes to draw;

1) would you be ok if draw scenes from our threads?

2) would you be ok if i draw "what if" scenes, shippy scenes even if our characters aren't in a ship, or even smut of our characters? would spicy drawings be less kosher in a gen game or more kosher if it's a sex game?

3) bonus (be honest) question, would your answers change if the art is good or bad?

i figure most people don't mind/find it flattering, and let's presume the drawings don't impact tag speed, but i wonder if there's any situations where someone might see it as "creepy" or "overinvested" or "not like how they imagined"? i don't want to potentially put anyone off.

i’ve been wondering the same thing lately since i’ve been itching to draw a ship i recently got to play, but personally

1) 100% yes!! 200% yes if we’re playing something crosscanon or obscure

2) also yes, though i’m a little shy about spicy art as a whole. i’d be super flattered even if we weren’t actually shipping or in a sex game together, but in the case of the latter, i’d appreciate a warning first that the art is nsfw

3) not really! i’d still be really happy that my writing inspired someone to draw our characters together, and i’d save it, etc!

2. If our characters aren't in a ship, finding out you're drawing smut of them together is kinda iffy to me. But I'm a prude who wants to ask before being shown smut drawings in general, so grain of salt.

2. re: ship, it depends? i think you're fine as long as you check with the other player about how they feel about the characters. like i could see how 'it's okay if we don't ship it but here's my shippy art :) i drew a lot :) look at how cute they are together :)' could be perceived as ship pushing if you go about it the wrong way.

not saying you're ship pushing, op, just more like something to keep in mind.

1) yes absolutely!! i'm so okay with receiving scenes from threads and seeing how the other writer envisioned them, even if it's not how i pictured it myself.

2) "what if" scenes are completely welcome! the rest depends on how much we talk, i think. like, if we're not shipping in threads but we're talking about how our characters have good chemistry or they're really cute together, i would be totally happy to get shippy/smutty art even if we hadn't threaded anything yet. if we don't really have that kind of rapport, though, i'd find it odd? sort of flattering, sort of weird because it's kind of like, "oh, i didn't think this was the kind of cr we were aiming for." having a heads up about it would be nice, i think.

3) if the art was bad, it wouldn't change my feelings on gen scenes or shippy art, but spicy art would turn me off if it was "bad". sorry, i'm just shallow.

to add my two cents as someone who's about average as an artist and sometimes draws things for rp partners: everyone i've given art to has seemed very happy to receive artwork of their character and mine in any context. i try to feel out the other person first before i give them shippy/smutty art of our characters to see if they'd be into it though. you can never go wrong with saying, "hey, writing with you has inspired me to draw [insert thing] with our characters, would that be cool with you?"

no way to come off creepy if you ask first

1. yes! i've gotten and given scene art before and it's always a good time! super flattering

2. this one depends on the ship, if i have some good cr with the person, if we're kind of friends outside of just our rp, etc. i generally don't mind vaguely shippy art even if we're not in a ship, but i'd say no to smut, especially without asking.

3. no. i like all art. :(

given that I'm playing fandom characters, idgaf if you draw anything. anything at all. just because you got the idea to smash Percy Jackson and Riku together from RP doesn't make it magically different or creepy compared to any other fanart - so go for it. draw whatever you want. have at it. it's fanart, there are no rules, get wild. yes that includes ships and smut. it's not my character, so I would feel like I'm the one getting overinvested if I feel weird about crosscanon fanart smut.

I'm just generally not into fanart, I don't even really seek it out, so if your CR partners are even somewhat disinterested, just don't push it on them. make it available and be cool about it and other people will probably be cool about whether or not they want to look at it.

2) Look, if you draw what-ifs, I'm probably going to want to meme those what-ifs with you. Divergences and AUs are my favorite thing. Shippy art is absolutely charming. I'm personally totally cool with smutty art, but this is something you might want to discuss with individual RP partners, since comfort levels vary. I don't think most people would find it creepy without there being ship-pushing involved, but some might not want to know about/be linked to it for various reasons.

3) Not really. I mean, I enjoy good art more than bad art, but the sense of delight at someone being enthusiastic enough about our CR to want to draw it isn't skill dependant for me.

2.) I don't mind non-shippy what-if scenes, but shippy is ok if I also ship it. It gets weird to me if I don't but that's mostly because I've had a bad experience with ship pushers.
3.) Nah. Art is art, and I know the effort behind it is a lot. I'd appreciate it.

2. I think the question is if I would be interested in seeing them in this case. If our characters are in a ship and smutting together, I probably would be since I'm already invested/involved in it. I think it's smart to ask first like hey do you want to see this nsfw thing I did of our characters? They might be like HELL YES and they might be like nah. I think it's a little weird if we're not in a ship or smut just because it might come off as you trying to push your ship/smut headcanon at me.

So I think it's fine to draw ANYTHING you want and have the best time, but maybe just check first before sharing NSFW stuff in general.

3. I don't think the quality would matter!

I think it could be creepy if it's really pushy? If you're drawing these things out of inspiration and want to share, and you've established a connection with the person, go for it. If they don't know you well/haven't displayed interest in the ship or whatever, mayyyyybe not.
