The figure lets out a high pitched, repetitive wail as you walk away, as if trying to get your attention. As you leave the scene, the sound fades but is soon replaced by the plap plap of bare skin on the sidewalk following behind.

Strangely, it sounds like two barefoot people but you only saw one stranger.

Suddenly it all makes sense.

Walking on all fours, black hands, hunched figure, stocky build, weird noises...

You're being followed by a chimpanzee.

I suffer from a lifelong fear of all primates. I scream, try to bolt, go skidding on a nearby banana peel someone carelessly dropped, and fall off the curb onto my ass.

A grating sound comes from across the street, and to your horror the chimp clambers in front of you- then pulls its own head off by the ears.

After a moment you realise the sound is the canned laughter of ancient studio recordings and that the chimp’s removed head is but a mask. English actor, producer, director and motion capture artist Andrew Clement Serkis was inside the costume the whole time. He points and laughs, as the buildings around you fall over to reveal they are nothing but facades. Your friend appears, wipes off stage makeup to reveal they are American actor, comedian, and singer Jonathan Michael Lovitz.

They all laugh and leave. It turns out you’re in a studio, and no one will give you a lift home.
