Naming even a broad character archetype helps a lot to people who are canonblind. "my character needs friends" is hard to respond to, "my character makes friends over food/music/beating the shit out of each other" is easy

Which is weird to see from JRPG fans in general who should know one of the staples of the medium is that the protag is usually a teen or young adult. Coming of age is a big trope in the genre and Japanese fans in general seem to prefer younger protags.

You attempt to disrupt the tragic causality loop of the cooler, even though you did not respect their non-binary identity, you still love them. Unfortunately, you prevent the fridge from ever marrying the first anon. As a result, the loop breaks but only by preventing the birth of the cooler in the first place.

You, as a time traveller, are separated from the wave of changes that occur and witness them spreading. You are the only person in any reality to remember the cooler. You repeatedly try to rectify your mistake, like that two-parter episode of Star Trek: Voyager. Each attempt makes things worse. The cooler is lost to the stream of time, but all things considered, perhaps that was for the best.

And eventually, Kathryn Janeway blows you up.

wasn't sure where else to put this. i've been playing this character for a while and would really like some straightforward feedback. how do you go about asking for crit, anons? is there a meme i could post to? could i get one going in my game? do you just ask the people you've been writing with? thanks!

you'll probably have a hard time getting people to be honest with you unless you have some glaring errors, anon. people in this community are really scared of being critical in case it makes them look "mean".

that said I have seen some people have a bit of success by posting an anon plurk specifically asking for crit, you could try that.

(This is my experience with asking for crit 1-on-1; I can't give advice for memes.)

The best advice I can give is to just straightforwardly ask for it from people you have a connection with, and be mature about it. People are going to be more likely to be honest with you if they don't feel like they're going to need to both crit you and provide emotional support for you regarding whatever they say. Ask the people you think would be best equipped to answer (don't pick a canonblind person for canon advice, obviously, but they might be helpful for advice on how to make your character appeal to someone unfamiliar with them). Ask targeted questions. And always give them the option of declining to answer; like anon above me said, many people here are scared of being critical and that's valid.

Never mind the only SMT protagonist that could be considered a grown ass adult is Aleph (and that's questionable), SMT I's protag and the Demi-fiend are high school students, and Flynn is 18.

Adult protagonists in the entire SMT umbrella is more of an exception than a rule, the teenagers outnumber them.

Have specific things that you want to ask about and don't just ask broadly. For example, "When I am writing I am thinking about x thing that is important to the character. Does that come across well, or does that seem like too much [fluff/angst/whatever]?"

1. yes! i've gotten and given scene art before and it's always a good time! super flattering

2. this one depends on the ship, if i have some good cr with the person, if we're kind of friends outside of just our rp, etc. i generally don't mind vaguely shippy art even if we're not in a ship, but i'd say no to smut, especially without asking.

We as a community should bring back listing a character's Likes/Dislikes

theeee longest of longshots (i think they count as a rarepair lol...) but ever since i read the side story where mizuki refers to them both as a grumpy old married couple i've been dying.

angst, fluff, and smut (aged up or not) are all a-okay with me, and i'm good with both memes and psls. hmu if you're interested.

I never have problems getting hits on CR memes when I state specifically what types of CR I am looking for (i.e. "my character has a little sister back at home that she really misses, so she would love some CR she could dote on as a substitute little sister" or "my character has a phobia of commitment so ships are out, but some FWBs would be great"). That way people who aren't familiar with your character don't have to try to think up how your characters would get along, they can just go "oh I'd really like a big sister figure for my character" and that gives you a springboard to start plotting CR right there.


Your character is unique in their world and destined to be the catalyst for grand changes if they live long enough to be the cause of them. The time meddling organization, The Night Wind, has become aware of these future contributions and will stop at nothing to eliminate the threat your character poses to them. Fortunately they didn't get to you first. A plucky group of rebels in their commandeered steampunk airship, The Westwind, arrived before them and whether by offering your character safe passage or by shanghaiing them if they prove unruly enough not to listen to reason your character has entered this unique witness protection program. Each adventure will see the Westwind journey to a new world in space or time. Once there some characters might experience temporal merging, meaning they would forget who they are and join the local population. Others will remember and might be kind enough to watch over the Hidden. While still others might chose to avoid the shenanigans entirely and continue living their new lives onboard the Westwind. All of space and time is your hiding place in this Victorian steampunk adventure.

I think he means as things that can either give positive CR and negative CR. Not gonna lie, under that context, might give potential taggers good idea on what hooks to give out or take.
