rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Be better at drawing boundaries.

Not trying to dogpile you, but it takes two for a situation to mound up like this. You didn’t do everything right, and it wasn’t just this icky RPer who violated your boundaries repeatedly, nonconning you with friendship, and acting like it is is doing them a disservice.

You don’t want to be friends with them, and that’s fine! What’s not fine is that you’re basically seeming like you’re asking for a way to stop them being friends with you, without telling them that you don’t want to be friends with them, because that’s the kind thing to do?

If you want to be nice, just flat out PM them at this point and talk about the personality clash you’re feeling with them. Friends or friendly acquaintances, I feel like you owe it to them at this point.

If you want to be “nice”, remove them, ghost them.

Also, clear boundaries would be shutting them down once they tread over your boundary one too many times in the first place, instead of sucking it up for the fun PSL while it was going, and only getting annoyed once it ended. Just saying. Unless it just coincidentally started to happen once you two ran out of tags?

And okay, before you go 'but but but,' I've got a strictly curated timeline. I get wanting people at certain distances.

But if you didn't want this person to think you were friends and only wanted to talk about RP, then you shouldn't have added them to a space in which they have access to your personal life updates. This part is where you fucked up. Your boundaries aren't as clearly drawn as you'd like to think.

After you remove them, however you choose to do so, make an RP plurk and add future RP partners only to that one. If you added them to your RP plurk, then rethink what content you post to that one versus your personal account. Because I get finding people annoying, but I also don't make a habit of giving them access to things I don't want them to comment on.

there are anons in here who are taking the situation and running with it to write fanfic, be pissed off at them. there's also people around here who will inevitably conflate threads and tags with friendship

but i feel like if youre in a position where you have to tell someone you dont actually like them now that theyve been convinced you guys have been friends for however long and theyve been allowed to see into and comment on your private life, then you probably weren't as concrete as you think you were. there really isnt much of a way out without hurting their feelings at this point

offering someone a space where they can see into your life invites them to know you beyond rp whether that was your intention or not. and keeping them around while secretly really not liking them all that much is just not as nice as people in this hobby seem to think it is
