rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post personal information. This includes but is not limited to full names, addresses, phone numbers and so on.

I know this was tried a long time ago and failed, but would anyone be interested in a sock community again?

It wouldn't try to be a complete alternative to rpanons or wankgate, I'm thinking something more centered around things like the recent discussions we've been having about game tropes and the like. I think it'd be nice to have a place where, for example, people could ask for concrit on the game they're trying to open or the idea they have (this in particular is something we really don't have a place for), and could find other mods, and players could discuss the community in general and we could even do things like short writing challenges or sock tag accountability threads.

There's a lot of discussion we could be having here that is kind of stopped in its tracks for the fear that someone will come in just to troll, and even things like game recs have people hesitant to namedrop for fear that some anon can come in and rip the game apart. Member-locked posts with socks could cut down on some of that. If someone's really dedicated enough to make a new sock for each comment, people would at least be able to see that it's a 1-comment throwaway account.

i like the thought you've put into this but i'm really not sure it's needed. i think rpa fulfills this role pretty well and (personally) i don't find it that difficult to distinguish between anons within a given thread using stylistic cues.

I would love something like this, ie just a place where logging in would be okay, but I just don't think there's a place for it in the current climate of dwrp. The only way a sock comm would work would be if rpa or wg became sock-only communities (and imo, wg would benefit from it) since we really don't need a third "anon" comm here.

Honestly there's no reason someone can't ask about a game they're opening and look for mods here. People have done that here. You open the risk of a troll being an asshole, but that'd be a risk in a sock community too.

I think moving something like this off platform would work better. Maybe like, a dwrp plurk account that posts friends-only weekly anon plurks on set topics? You'd have to be friended to the account to reply, so there would be an understanding that no one outside the dwrp community could troll there.

But all that still hinges on "do we really need another anonymous community" and honestly I already think 2 is too many.

Like the other anons said, I don't think another anoncomm would be viable or helpful. But I do like the idea of gauging the community's feelings on things like game tropes or modding tips or what kinds of plots people like doing... maybe it could be done as an anonymous survey? Somebody did a rp survey a few months back that was kind of interesting, but the questions weren't that specific.

...on the other hand, it would certainly cut down on sameanon trolling.

I would like to true a sock community again, not sure if it will work in the long run but if we don't try we'll never know right?
