This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

even if people who like auing their character are in a minority (clearly there is a current hungry obvious market for that even if in a minority) they aren't nobody

most people want to play the canon version of their characters. you can quibble over disliking au games, but they're pretty unpopular overall.

I dunno, memory loss used to be an entire subgenre of game and all the current hype around monster transformation mechanics basically fulfills the same desire to come up with "your" special version of a character.

I think au games specifically tend to just run into the problem of players either getting scared off by the idea of having to be into a specific canon or having to understand the mods' setting. I think that's why modern au games tended to be more successful because you don't have to know anything.
