Rundown:
rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.
Rules:
Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not post personal information. This includes but is not limited to full names, addresses, phone numbers and so on.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

Re: da
(Anonymous) 2021-05-02 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)Could I make a suggestion? Instead of having Byleth be a specific house's professor, have Jeritza be the third professor instead? So Jeritza could be the Eagles' professor, Manuela with the Deer, and Hanneman with the Lions (or switch them around, idk which houses would fit those two). Byleth could just be Jeralt's adjutant who hangs out around the monastery, or even a generic combat teacher who helps out all the houses. Just to minimize their impact on the plot after the timeskip.
Also, just my opinion, I think omitting White Clouds altogether would mean players would lose a lot of opportunity for developing character bonds and deciding where they would go during the war. For instance, Marianne could have a budding friendship with Edelgard that could motivate her to join Edelgard's side when the war begins.
Re: da
(Anonymous) 2021-05-03 05:55 am (UTC)(link)I wanted Jeritza to be an appable character since he is a recruitable unit with quite a few connections to the rest of the appable cast. If he were a professor tied to a specific house, he would have to be an NPC, as his role in the initial plot would have changed dramatically. I'm still on the fence as to whether Manuela and Hanneman should be NPC's, though, so this is not a hard and fast rule.
The issue with writing out Byleth entirely just is that the nature of the plot woild

Re: da
(Anonymous) 2021-05-03 06:09 am (UTC)(link)... As I was saying, lol. The issue with writing out Byleth entirely is that the nature of the plot would also change entirely. My goal with this game isn't to give an interactive, progressively more AU or divergent retelling of FE3H, but to provide opportunities for players to actually reach a decisive conclusion to their characters' arcs and to the whole game lore in the post-timeskip section, making only the changes to the plot that are necessary to fit the conventions of the DWRP format (so, for example, there is a plot-relevant reason why the network will exist).
I definitely see what you're saying about missing out on opportunities for character development, but I wouldn't be able to create enough content that could anticipate the twists and turns the whole of the plot might take if I were to include pre-timeskip gameplay. In order to account for a variety of different directions the plot might veer into post-timeskip (inclusive of everything going to shit) and not scramble to make new content while the game is running, I need the pre-timeskip portion to resemble the original game closely and to be settled before the RP begins, while I'm in the planning stage.
On a personal note, I'm also not very interested in writing content for the Academy phase, and I wouldn't have time to mod a game that runs long enough to include it. :( But for what it's worth, I'm adapting the existing paralogues and developing new ones so that 1) cross-allegiance collaboration is possible (provided certain advertised conditions are met) and 2) there are more opportunities for character development that have to do with Fódlan politics and their parents' role in it (so, ideally, very few of the paralogues would be plot-irrelevant or filler).
Re: da
(Anonymous) 2021-05-05 01:04 am (UTC)(link)Ooh, new paralogues sound fun. The academy phase paralogues are the main reason why I brought it up, in addition to things like Lonato's rebellion, but it's definitely fair if you'd rather skip right past that part of the story.
I like this idea for a 3h game but I think calling it a "golden route" in your original comment was a tad misleading if you don't mind me saying 😅. When most people talk about a FE3H golden route they usually mean a scenario where all three lords, and sometimes Rhea, come to an understanding and unite to defeat TWSITD together and live happily ever after. I can't quite see anything like that happening if your intent for the game is to flesh out individual character arcs and avoid AUs/divergences from canon. Which is fine, and I'm still interested, but if someone saw a fe3h game advertised as a Golden Route they'd probably expect to see something like Edelgard and Dimitri reconciling.
Re: da
(Anonymous) 2021-05-05 07:13 am (UTC)(link)Ohh, I see. I called it that because that would be the game's intention, but it would be contingent on how the game actually shakes out and if the lords' different factions can and do actually team up post-time skip. I thought the possibility of fucking up would be attractive, since then the direction of the game wouldn't be set in stone, LOL. In that sense this game WOULD encourage divergences, and already has some built in, but for the sake of fleshing out the canon's lore and giving it closure. This is why I wouldn't exactly consider it an AU. But I see your point! I won't advertise it as a golden route. Thanks for your comments.

(Anonymous) 2021-05-05 11:39 am (UTC)(link)I know that's not a pleasant thing to think about, but from experience, you're very likely to have one or two bad apples like this show up to play and I think it's worth your while to try and catch them at the door.
Re: another da
(Anonymous) 2021-05-05 01:47 pm (UTC)(link)I'm glad you've brought this up. It's something I've been thinking about that I would really appreciate some feedback on.
The apps were already set to include a section where the player can elaborate on where they'd like to take their character's arc and mention their /character's/ ending preference (ex., nightmare, golden, or toss-up -- I think that specification is important, because I, as an Ashe player, might want a nightmare end, but the character would almost certainly work towards a golden one). Of course, no one would be beholden to what they write in their app as if it were a contract, but it'd give me some idea of how I could customize certain content to make those arcs happen and screen for particular issues in advance, like irreconcilable interpretations of source material relationships and events. If there were extreme, un-organic deviations from any aspect of the app, a reason for that particular character's absence in-game would be whipped up until I could touch base with the player and reach a solution with them (similar to if a player needed an extended hiatus). There'd be limits to that, obviously, at which point either 1) the character would become re-appable by a new player for the following month of play or 2) the character would be killed off. I welcome suggestions on this, if you (or any other anons) have any.

(Anonymous) 2021-05-05 05:42 pm (UTC)(link)I know you said you wanted to let people have some leeway with how their character developed during White Clouds, ie Black Eagles Lysithea, so I'd probably nail down a White Clouds/Mid-Skip history that allows for that, as well as decide what you want to do with pivotal plot points like what happens to Rhea, what happens in the Holy Tomb, et cetera, and how much you want to deviate from your chosen route. For example, if you want the conflict to be oriented more toward dealing with the Slithers, you might use Crimson Flower as the "base" route but still have Cornelia stage her coup in Fhirdiad, which is a pretty pivotal plot point for Dimitri's character and also allows you to potentially pit your player characters against Cornelia later.

(Anonymous) 2021-05-05 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)You're reading my mind with that last paragraph, anon! Thanks a lot for the additional advice and brainstorming, too, I genuinely appreciate it.
Regarding your comment about prohibiting headcanons that contradict game lore: I totally agree, but do want to make some leeway when it comes to characters' sexualities and the like (insofar as that's even considered lore). Take Ingrid, for example. She has no F/F S-supports, but like, come on, it's there, LMAO. This is a "change" that would definitely impact other players, but that is also the sort of thing this kind of game would invite you to explore. Having said that, I would obviously not accept (say) a version of Ignatz that were no longer fascinated by the Saints as aesthetic figures, even if the player provided a great explanation for why he lost his faith (and, subsequently, his taste for the Saints) pre-timeskip. It's not a huge part of his character, but if that kind of change were made pre-game, it would become a huge part of his character. Does that make sense? Obviously if the Ignatz player were keen on testing Ignatz's faith, I'd design his paralogue with that in mind, but it'd be too much of a leap for him to have become an atheist prior to the game opening, imo.

I thought this was a fascinating read, but this particular theory wouldn't even be in play for a prospective Edelgard -- and I mean that literally -- because a reflection on this incident wouldn't feature in any aspect of the RP's design. It's one of those things from canon that I always wondered about and had my own take on, but that I don't think has any real impact on post-timeskip stuff, even as an explanation for a past event.
