Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not post personal information. This includes but is not limited to full names, addresses, phone numbers and so on.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

had this game suggested to me last EMP round, at the time i was canon reviewing and now that i'm done i'm having a look around here again. have to admit that as much as i love the setting and premise, that massive taken list sure is intimidating and would probably be the biggest game i've ever apped to if i go through with it ;;

so just wondering for a newbie on the outside looking in, is this a really fast-paced game where you have to pay attention to major cast developments and plot details and generally be super involved, or are most people just carving out their own space and doing their own thing with exploration and events and such? i'd prefer the latter since i know my schedule and attention span will have a hard time keeping up with the former, but the setting is everything i want in a game rn and i'm super tempted.

i'd say it's the latter! i'm in both a large cast and a tiny one, and haven't had any trouble keeping up with the characters/plots i'm interested in. i write maybe 25~75 tags a month; if that's about your wheelhouse, you should be golden.

What I really like about this game is that the mods give LOTS of content for players to work with: there's TDM events, the monthly event, and the monthly quests that everyone can use for posts. some people may find that overwhelming, but you don't have to interact with any of it-- rather, you can pick and choose what interests you most and ignore the rest. Sometimes events are based on developments from earlier month events, and that can make understanding the event ~lore~ a bit of a hunt if you weren't in game for all those months (mods are working on a timeline to make it easier tho), but ultimately anyone can hop in at any time and be fine, which is nice.

If you decide to join, i hope you enjoy it!

the game is as busy as you want to make it for your character. some characters are getting heavily involved in the plot, others are playing around with the whole "adapting to being in a new world with possibly new/different technology" bit. and like above anon said, there's a huge amount of freedom in terms of what you can do.

Something else that deserves a mention is that the pace is really chill. It's not the sort of game where you get busy for a few days and a ton happened that you missed. People will still tag into events a week or more later. People are cool with late tags to their posts. So what you choose to get involved in you also don't have to feel pressure to tag right away.

Avalon is an interesting combination of slow but very active, by which I mean there are a lot of characters, a lot of posts, and a lot to do every month, but people backtag a lot. This definitely isn't for everyone, but it works well for me, in that I can have more threads at a time without getting overwhelmed because there's a wide spread of tagging paces among the playerbase. Some people boomerang, some people tag 1-2 times a week, and you can feel that out and balance your tag load accordingly. If you're low on tags because you're only tagging slower or flakier people, there's always something new you can tag. It's a relief when I myself have to step away for a few days (for example, I was pretty sick last week and didn't tag half the week) and I come back and have plenty to do without having too much to do. And because there are so many characters, there's really no pressure to keep up with everyone or tag into anything you're not feeling or are too busy for.

I can take a week between tags and have never felt behind on anything. People are very open to back tagging.

AC is also a breeze.

I’d recommend reading the TDM prompts and monthly events so you know setting info but you don’t have to actually interact with those plot elements if you don’t want to.
