So, what if a meme comm was actually an on-going game setting?

Basically, the game would revolve around characters being taken to entertain the "gods" who run the city. (Yes, that again.) Though they're not literal gods. More the self-imposed kind where money=power etc. There would be something of a district system, with the center being for the rich alone, and the outer two rims for everyone else. The whole setting is very much a "them vs us" kind of thing. So no access to the center unless the higher ups want them there. The lower areas would be the general housing/living areas, where characters would stay/live. There's be a middle grounds where they would be able to work to earn the currency of the city and try to buy their freedom.

The gods would also provide monthly events to boost their earnings, but they would all be themed. So one month could be horror, the next sci-fi, the next crack etc. All of it is basically being done to characters to amuse the "gods" while giving characters the chance to earn their freedom.

Characters would also be gain payment for ongoing optional events. From basic things like getting a job, to completing certain tasks. And of course, the money they earn also needs to be used to pay their rent and buy food/clothing/supplies, so there isn't really an easy way out.

Given the way the game would play out, there wouldn't really be room for a metaplot. It'd be very focused on the monthly events, with the possibility of smaller weekly events like the various texting memes (tfln/gen/sexting/etc) taking place each month. Everything is obviously opt-in, with characters "signing up" for each event to earn bonus credits to buy their way out.

IDK, it's just an idea I've been thinking about, so I wanted to see what people though/if there's any real interest.

i like this idea! i like the ease of a meme, but i want the continuity and structure of a game. this combines all of that. it's good.

this would be really fun for me since i can't commit to games and AC and all that, but i miss participating in plots and getting cross canon CR easily

honestly this is everything i could want with my rp climate rn

if you manage to set this up i'd definitely drop my character in, op

yes this

(Anonymous) 2018-12-05 11:19 am (UTC)(link)
I think I'd still want to have apps and stuff, just to try and keep problematic people out/make sure the game is a safe space for the players. But that would mean needing an AC to make sure characters aren't being squatted on. IDK, I'm still thinking on the logistics of this cause I know I won't have the time to sink in to modding an actual game alone.

with a little more structure, yes

(Anonymous) 2018-12-05 01:38 pm (UTC)(link)
with no AC people are going to flake like it has happened with all attempts of games-but-not-really

with ac, you'll have to think a bit more about the premise because games with no plot have no luck these days

sorry to sound like a pessimistic asshole but variations of this has been tried many times and i'd hate to see you lose your time. people were crying they wanted games like gargleblasted back and it barely lasted a month when they tried

(Anonymous) 2018-12-05 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah, that's why i brought the idea here to get some other people's input. there's pros and cons for having a full game structure with ac/apps/etc, and it could honestly work both ways.

personally, i prefer the structure of a game, simply because it means it's easier to control who gets in. but that's largely because i've had to deal with a lot of...less than savory people on public rp comms before. putting in a strong reporting system could help curtail that i suppose.

there is a basic premise re: the "gods" and buying your way out. but it's something that could be expanded on. i just wouldn't want to detract from the ongoing events by throwing a heavy metaplot in to the mix. the whole thing is meant as a light-hearted game with a bunch of meme like "events".

I have this thought about taking the elements of dead by daylight and translating it to RP, but the how is really rough. I would want to break it down and be simple enough for someone unfamiliar to be able to play, and then there is the whole issue with how killers work vs how rp works.

Like it would have to run dnd style I feel to play the way that translates best? Just four characters at a time forced to participate in the trial and surprise y'all gonna either work together or be horribly maimed or killed just to have to do it again.

Sa; mobile eats my post comment if I type too much..

(Anonymous) 2018-12-12 01:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Theres also an aspect lore wise that would make playing a killer fun, in that some of them get forced/chosen over someone else by the entity and that sweet drama that results. It just overall looks really fun in my head 8(

i play dead by daylight and that sounds pretty cool. it would require a lot of rework though to keep it multi-canon friendly.

i had an idea for a game, lemme run it by you

you find yourself in a city - i'm willing to fudge with the how and why, maybe you came there of your own volition, maybe you were tricked, maybe you wandered down the wrong hallway, whatever. it looks like a perfectly normal city with modern buildings, bustling crowds, motor traffic. to someone from 20th century earth, it appears quite mundane.

but there are hints that something is amiss within minutes of your arrival. the citizens seem tense and on edge. no one is hostile or even overtly rude, but you can sense that there is something they're trying to hold back, an animal savagery only barely held in check and ready to tear loose with little provocation. they glance distractedly toward a certain point of town throughout the day, and if you follow the direction of their gaze you will find the crowds, and the tension, intensify, until you reach a lone structure - a small room built of sturdy brick, with a firm concrete foundation and a heavy door marred on its outer face with dings, dents, and the marks of clawing fingers.

here it is a free-for-all as otherwise civilized human beings battle each other frenziedly in an effort to reach the mysterious structure. their desperation is palpable as they bludgeon, wrestle and manhandle one another trying to get just a step closer to whatever lies behind the closed door. perhaps you take your leave of this place, having no desire to remain in the presence of such brutality, but you will be back eventually. everyone comes here, sooner or later. they have no choice.

for the room that everyone is fighting over? contains nothing more fantastic than a toilet and sink. it's a bathroom. the only bathroom in this town.

you are in the city of one loo.

A PSL I'm in right now has given me a longing for a zombie apocalypse game. I'm thinking the characters are AU'd into the setting because I feel a jamjar doesn't really gel well with this type of game. Nothing fancy, just a loose overarching storyline with the main focus on day to day survival. Something that starts off right at the beginning of the outbreak, so that character's have their supplies and shelters slowly start to dwindle. There could always be a setting change when they're inevitably forced to move onto wherever they can hole up next. Maybe a plot where people get infected and a cure has to be found or others are found to be immune.

My one concern is having people app the most special overpowered characters ever just so they can brag about how they can slay 500 zombies at once. I'm thinking maybe RNGing results for certain things like zombie fights might make it a bit more even, so that the characters aren't always winning all the time at everything they do.

If its an AU game you can depower characters on entry at least.
