i was going to commend your good taste, anon but then you had to throw nobu under the bus.

is it a crime to dislike nobu now? i'm not that anon but i don't care for her either, or really any of pako's designs.

tbf i can see why someone might be uncomfortable with nobu's design? iirc her uniform is loosely based off of nazi germany's uniform, and the symbol on her hat strongly resembles the rising sun flag used by the imperial japanese army so i can understand why someone would be put off by her design.

just to be clear though, this isn't a dunk on nobu as a character nor am i implying anyone is bad for liking her; i honestly would prefer if this thread didn't devolve into "nobu as a character is bad because of keikenchi's questionable clothing design choices." again, my point is that there are legitimate reasons why people might be put off by her design.

Yeah, her outfit is meant to be a combo nazi + imperial japan thing because of the setting of the Imperial Holy Grail War. It isn't the shogun armor she would have been summoned in, its an outfit she put on during her Grail War, and her Grail War took place during the closing months of World War 2 and involved the German and Japanese militaries. It's pretty explicit in that aspect.

For the record, that story also involves Hitler being shot and GudaGuda 3, which was a loose adaptation of that story, went out of its way to not really touch on any of that stuff, so I'd hardly say anyone at type-moon is a Nazi sympathizer or historical revisionist, it's more just a function of playing fast and loose with iconography.

OTOH the bar in carnival phantasm being named after https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ahnenerbe is just weird.

so in other words, nazis and the japanese imperial army were involved in a gag manga, and nobu runs around in a uniform inspired by nazi germany/imperial japan because she thinks it’s cool

i don’t think anyone in tm is a nazi sympathizer either, but i think their handling of the ww2 elements in koha-ace is tasteless and tacky

Is there a source on the Nazi outfit thing? It definitely looks like some of the WWII-era Japanese uniforms, but it doesn't look like a Nazi uniform any more than any other uniform would.

Or is it one of those things where they said that's what it was but didn't bother doing any research?

o... okay? i don’t know about you, but designing a uniform that is loosely based off a nazi uniform + the rising sun symbol for “iconography” in a comedy spin-off might be kind of insensitive.

you don’t need to be a nazi sympathizer or a xenophobic nationalist to be tactless when it comes to sensitive topics like nazism or japanese imperialism.
