rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

Anyone got any tips for minimizing OOC interactions while in a game? I already don’t use plurk.

you should be good, then? just pm people if you need to sort out details of something or use the cr meme

if you pm people for plotting don't let them draw you into non-rp related chat. an example that happened to me: someone would consistently start dropping in paragraphs about how awful and stressful their rl is while apologizing for their slowness. i made the mistake of engaging (instead of just giving an "oh i'm sorry, that must suck!") and it quickly lead to novels about their problems and them trying to make me their online therapist. the very thing i disabled my plurk in order to escape. i was stupid, don't be like me. don't engage.

i've never experienced this problem when plotting via posts/comments in ooc comms. i wish more games would use ooc comms.

it's worth mentioning at least that without plurk/discord, you will be missing out on things because some players exclusively look for cr and discuss plots and threads on those platforms. game cr memes are a crapshoot. even tagging out can be a crapshoot in games. there's just too many flakes these days. but you'll also be avoiding a fuckton of ooc drama and the social hoops you have to jump through before people will thread with you, so maybe it evens out in the end. you'll miss opportunities, but also avoid a lot of stress.

But also, if you do let them draw you into non-RP related chat, learn how to communicate that you're not interested in a direct yet friendly fashion.

I once had a canonmate who was on AIM, and I asked if it was a good time because it was kinda late, and they said yeah. Great time. So I talked to them about movies, but after ten minutes of this they said no, actually, it's not a good time. They're just on to support one of their friends through some online therapist problem. In hindsight it's obvious they just thought I would be talking about the game and wasn't interested in making friends with other people, which is really fair, but the bait-and-switch from my perspective was really off-putting.
