Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

if you have examples, anon, share with the class.

though i think the real issue here is not that the mod made an exception for a player, but that the mod made an exception for a player who has a clear and long-running pattern of poor activity and cliquey behavior.

I don't have any recommendations either, but I'm seconding OP. Avoid Shadow Syndicate like the plague.

I don't have many good things to say about The Inn Dwellers either. Cute name aside, they're also fairly spammy and obnoxious.

be willing to play cross-canon/medium. Or, if you're not, be clear about it. Seems like a large amount of the MCU problem is people not being clear and then everyone ends up lumped together in the 'unfriendly' category by default

I miss Mallowmateys every day.

so you're craving everyday life?

there's a simple solution for that.

(Anonymous) 2018-05-30 02:13 pm (UTC)(link)
the best compromise of a dice roll system that i've seen is asking characters to meet check points and they can add points to try and meet that based on character abilities or strength, group strategy, tactics, etc. it's a little bit honor based, asking players to make honest assessments of their character's abilities. not immediately telling them what challenge number they have to meet probably helps with that. agoge does something like this. there's still an element of randomization. you can still possibly get janky situations if there's a critical fail but generally the numbers balance out so even if you get a bad roll it's not necessarily a bad reflection of your character's abilities. i feel like this is a very fair system and not hard for players or mods to run with.

tbh my favorite system did not utilize dice at all and operated solely on contributing points, sort of like a group voting system. characters sign up into groups and generally the more populated group would win at a thing, though tie breakers and rare exceptions could be made at mod's discretion based on character abilities, proposed plans, etc. this worked real well in tanagura, which was faction vs faction based. failures often resulted in unique rewards of their own, depending on the disclosed risk. not sure how well it'd translate into a strictly pvp situation. it seemed very taxing on mods, but was extremely rewarding to play with and felt the most immersive to me since making the most ic choice was rewarded as opposed to trying to numbers lawyer things just to "win".

I am interested in the Jotaro/Josuke part (and wouldn't mind doing it set in canon or an AU). If you don't mind waiting for me to review DIU, I can def give Jotaro a try for a quick shippy/smutty thing!

Hi! I'd love to do this with you. You can hit me up here when you're ready and we can do the thing!

Has anyone ever done this? I was scrolling through my feed and saw some Twitter RPers. After digging through their posts, I'm kind of interested and kind of want to give it a shot, so I'm looking for advice on how to get started besides just making a character account.

it's regional

ignore the anons in that thread saying "durrrr it i've never heard it where i'm from so that means it's not regional, it's just wrong", they don't know what regional means

Back at the Games, players had to rank their character in how likely they were to survive based on combat skills, wilderness survival, etc. They had to justify it with canon details and the mods would approve it. So that when the mods did dice rolls each week they used the ranking to weight things so the higher ranked characters had a stronger chance of surviving.

Upsets by weaker characters did happen but players figuring out how a weaker character would win was part of the fun. Environmental threats at least made it so they had something to use to their advantage. It was also possible for a weak character to be the last survivor if two other more powerful characters mortally wounded each other at the same time. Each week as characters were rolled to die, players would plot together on who killed who and how.

It wasn't a perfect system. Sometimes people bullshitted their rankings on their apps and if the mods weren't canon familiar they might not pick up on it. Sometimes if weaker characters won it was hard to figure out how they'd reasonably do it. But it was mostly functional for the game's run and it was a lot of fun. People were okay with losing because there were a lot of options on how they'd lose, including in having their characters die in absurd ways.

i don't even care about the cliquey behavior as much as i care about the shitty pattern of strikes and hiatusing

I was born in Ohio and I'm currently in indiana, and I've heard it used pretty regularly in both areas that I've lived ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

at the risk of sounding like "tinfoil hat wearing sameanon" instead of someone who's bored enough to wade back through this shit and use ctrl+f, here's some receipts

(disclaimer, i am solidly in the "natasha is a squatter" camp)

accepted in march 2017
april - passed
may - passed (extra thread)
june - strike
july - passed (original entry from april, well outside the 2 months permitted for ac)
august - passed
september - passed, submitted late
october - passed (extra thread - one is a continuation from last month's ac)
november - strike
december - check-in
january - passed
february - strike
march - not on ac (hiatus?)
april - passed (time zone failure), strike for jack

tbh i feel like she should have been kicked for the strike-hiatus combo in feb/march alone but maybe that's just me

It's all good buddy, glad I could put a little excitement into your day

tbh the entire game took a strike in feb. it's like no one knew they'd be two days short when ac rolled around.

are extra threads split threads or did she submit more than necessary ac those months?

the extra threads are the times she had to submit split threads

lots of oc apps! i'm surprised, usually ocs are pretty rare in sex games. not sure why.

i was waffling on it, but i might bring in my own now.

DOG PARK

(Anonymous) 2018-05-30 07:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Somebody please make a dog park meme! We can all decide the kind of dog (or other) our characters have and there'll be meet cute a la 101 Dalmations. I'd tag every single top level in this so I can hear about everyone's furbuds. I want this so badly, but if I made it myself it'd look like pure ass.

Didn't MCU Tony have a drinking problem for a while too? I don't know if he got sober like comics Tony because i never bothered with im3 and kind of cherrypicked my way through winter soldier/civil war.

But yeah, don't grab shit from the comics if it doesn't make sense for the MCU version, which is an entirely different universe from 616/1610/anything comics. Don't make Natasha a super soldier who was around for the Cold War, don't angle to give Tony the Extremis thing, don't make Steve secretly a Hydra agent all along, just stick with what's in the movies.

We hate on MCUs a lot here, but the ones who actually tag around and aren't allergic to anything that isn't LA are always super popular, ime. Give non-castmates more than a courtesy tag every couple weeks and you won't be hurting for CR.

april - passed
august - passed
september - passed, submitted late
december - check-in
january - passed
march - not on ac (hiatus?)

So ignoring exceptions and split threads she posted AC 5 times in the last year.

4 passes
1 check in
1 hiatused (iirc)

4 passes in a year. If she was accepted in March that means April was check in only too, doesn't it?
