they tried so hard to build anduin up as a character the alliance could FINALLY root for, and in the end that too fell flat on its face. both sides suck equal amounts of balls now and while i was initially excited for BfA, i don't know if i can stomach the awful story and shitty characters anymore.

this is a very tentative offer because i've still got some canon reviewing to do, but i love their dynamic and would be up for pretty much anything short of actual smut.

recently came to terms with the fact that i shouldn't rp ever again with my mental health. i've been gone for more than half a year now and between the time to myself and therapy, it's become clear that my social anxiety around being liked manifests hardcore into obsessive and defensive tendencies when it's rp-related, and it literally caused me to have such a breakdown that i pretty much destroyed all of my non-irl friendships for the dumbest of perceived slights. i've ghosted basically everywhere, because i knew if the option to come back was available i'd just fall into that goddamn spiral again.

it's shitty to realize a hobby you love and brought so many great memories can do far more damage to you than good, but here we are. if this sounds like you, maybe reassess your emotional control around playing barbies and pick up a non-collaborative hobby. learn to draw. write some fic. start a noise band. get six or seven roommates, eat some hummus with them. just get yourself together.

Been in the game a year now. It's been a huge amount of fun, and I only wish I was a better tagger so I could talk to everybody I'd like to.

Oh hell no, mods don't want to read your canon's magical powers wank.

When I mod, it's a red flag to me if an app has a longer powers section than a personality section, because almost always that player tends to either be a powergamer or a nitpick problem player who needs to ask technical details about how their specific power would work because specific canon thing for every game event and setting, and will give you pushback over this.

Some evil organisation or other has an agent/living weapon that does all the tough dirty work for them, and the weapon's in love with his handler because he's the only one who's ever treated him like a human being. The handler either loves him back and there's a forbidden romance aspect to it in the middle of all this murder, or takes advantage of this knowledge for some reason or other.

Alternatively, shit gets 200% more complicated when the weapon has to learn how to seduce men for infiltration work and his handler trains him to take Anything.

Some kinks I dig are sex in inappropriate places, oversensitivity, multiple rounds/orgasms, roleplay, unhealthy dependency on the weapon's part (or co-dependency), pain-pleasure stuff, bareback, medical play, the weapon becoming totally weak when the intimate stuff happens even when he's a fucking menace on the job -- but I'm game for playing anything.

I want to play the weapon and have both drawn/LA canons that could fit, but I'd be happy to make OCs too. Species isn't important to me, but I'll be playing a human-looking dude. Beyond that, I'm open to pretty much everything else! Leave a sock.

i don't know if anyone was expecting it to turn to ic conflict this quickly, but the mods definitely suggested it as an option in the ooc writeup.

it's a little overblown but like people are saying, it's the only thing we're running on aside from intros. personally, i'm kind of glad? i'd rather we see a conflict of opinions IC than an immediate "let's fall into these roles" sort of thing.

Given the attitude on both sides in this thread, it might be safer to link a wiki for powers and ask if you can supplement it with an easily digestible summary. Less side-eyeing you for being too detailed, and less reading for mods overall.

ngl, overly specific is better than annoyingly vague, isn't wankgate full of stories how the latter was used to push boundaries of what a character can do - new powers out of the ass, uses that go against canon, etc, all because "it's in the app"?

powergamer apps are easy to detect not because of their length but because they write about powers in terms of absolutes

i always ask the mods how do they want that section handled. different teams have different standards. so far, both times i've apped my magic guy with a super complicated magic system, i did the same thing: i wrote a summary in the app, and then linked to another entry in his journal with the details. i told the mods that i had that written down and if i could do the linking and both times they found it a perfect compromise!

like the other anon said, while long apps are a drag, when it comes to powers you need to be specific for two reasons: one, so you don't pull things out of your ass later, and two, so the mods know what notes to give you on them (like nerfs or x power would work a bit different, like so: blah.) it also helps for when your character meets another person with weird powers and both players want to know how those powers would interact. depending on what kind of memes/psls you play in, i always recommend having a power page in your journal, or at least a link to the wiki.

i disagree that a power section longer that a personality section is a bad sign. nowadays, most mods don't want novels for personality sections, and some canons just have bullshit powers. like the other anon said, the WAY the power personality is written is where the truth is at. i know i and many people i know always start or end the power section with "hey mods sorry for all this tldr this canon is super special snowflake, please nerf as much as you need". mentioning that you have a permission post when you're writing about mind control and the like helps a lot too.

not necessarily, especially if a set of abilities is very confusing or context sensitive

consider an example: most stand users in jojo's. they have to explain the concept of a stand AND what their stand is capable of, and for some of them (even for popular characters like josuke or giorno) require a bit of detail and examples to fully show what's going on to someone that is canon-unfamiliar (which for apps, you should always assume is the case)

if it's just someone with a laundry list of god-like abilities, sure, but most of often the reason for such extensively detailed power sections is for the player to not only explain what the fuck is up, but also hold themselves accountable for the limits and extent of those powers, which you need to show in most power sections anyways.

cool idea, but i can tell you it's going to be difficult to get ppl to play out the "who can you trust" angle, unless you get people to app the "bad guys" also

I play from a lot of shounen canons which, while rife with ridiculous power sets, is often very explicit with how to break them as well because that'a part of the point of the genre. A lot of my power sections are spent detailing the weaknesses and nerfs already in place for the character in canon so I and the mods can better work together to determine in-game nerfs and adjustments.

Of course, the other side of the coin is judging which of your characters and which of their power sets to app to different games. I wouldn't app a villain at the height of his powers to an SOL/lowkey game, for example, unless I wanted to play gay character with full or substantial nerfs. There are also characters where I am seeking at least a partial nerf because the nature of their powers makes them unplayable otherwise.

Basically: players should be detailed, because it makes communication easier in a collaborative hobby.
