So I'm thinking about bringing in a character that has magic; they're a very DnD-inspired character but I'm still trying to figure out how to shift that over to DWRP-style game mechanics since I've never played a character with these kinds of powers before. I might be over thinking it but I want to be careful not to make my character one that can magic the shit out of everything or make people feel like something they did came out of left field. Should I nerf them, should I list every single thing they're capable of, give a general outline instead etc.

i play a dnd character and tbh i tailor their abilities to each thread. if i don't want them to solve an issue/nuke someone outright, i'll come up with excuses as to why they aren't just dominating the thread. for example, maybe they're facing someone with a totally different fighting style than they've dealt with before, so they're thrown off and the fight is made more even that way, or maybe they don't want to cause a lot of damage so they hold back. like with any super powerful character, i think the key to everything is communicating with other players and discussing what you both want from the thread. but then again, i'm the type that has more fun when my character is struggling and i really don't enjoy when their powers give them an unbeatable advantage.

that sure was a whole lot of guilty conscience writing. it's one thing if there's a specific dynamic. it's another when its done to literally everyone in the game save otp.

i picked it because i thought it would make approaching new cr and writing top level "hooks" easier

how's it like for newcomers? lcw? looks oc friendly, yes? any issues tagging across medium? cliques or really anything to be aware of before joining?

From my pov, it's a good game for newcomers, lcw, and ocs. There's no medium divide to speak of.

I haven't noticed anyone limiting tags to a few friends or close cr, but it's a big game and I don't have as good a handle on activity like that anymore.

Overall it's a good group of people.

Communicate oocly and you should be fine no matter your character type. We have fast taggers, slow taggers, and everything in between. The important thing is to follow through on your plans and be honest oocly about your tag load, tagging speed, interest in cr/plot, etc.

newer player; apping into this game is the best thing I've done this year. it's extremely OC friendly and there aren't a lot of large casts so lcws don't get drowned out. my lcw has had no trouble gaining traction and getting involved.

worth your time? definitely. character types? I'd like to say any but realistically the only type that doesn't do well is one that isn't motivated to look after themselves/their friends or connect at all with other characters. the events have the potential for far-reaching effects even if you opt your own character out, they'd be dealing with their CR being affected. and we all really love torturing our own characters. the setting is more survival than horror, so bland SOL has no traction.

This IS really interesting! I thought some of my preferences would be more unpopular than that. Hopefully someone's inspired to craft a game with this in mind.

to be totally honest, if I'm you I've probably forgotten about it already, unless it was a thread I was excited for or that had plotting behind it or something

life's too short and too full of flakes for too many reasons for me to micromanage who isn't tagging me and why. if they tag I'll tag back, and if this is the only encounter I've had with them, then it's not a pattern of behavior yet so I'm not going to hold it against them next time I see them around. if it was a total fluke of a mistake, that's a shame, but I can't take it upon myself to go figure out what's going on with every person who tags me.

I don't think OP was talking about your situation bc they said the person tagged into OP's post and then failed to respond to the tag back. Would you tag into someone's toplevel if you didn't like the character and didn't see an engaging hook?

Realistically speaking, if I were to show up at your house right now to offer you a position in South Korea for a noteworthy business that included a great salary, benefits, and work schedule I'm pretty sure most of you would go citation needed no matter how good it sounds, so I'm not exactly sure why so many heroes of virtue would be blindly jumping at the chance to volunteer for these settings.

So why not have some less then honest settings with less than honest deals?
