I like horror and all, but I've been really craving a more light-hearted slice-of-life type of game lately, like Holly Heights or something.

Or even in the horror vein still, something like Mayfield or Haven again.

god, same. i want to join a game so bad but none of the current games are interesting to me. i'm so, so tired of space/space stations/sci-fi, but that's all that seems to be popping up... alongside some historical stuff here and there.

i just want something modern, like a darker city, or something. idfk i just don't want space

yeah, so the latest eps have me thirsty for those two like it's 2016. i can play either one, would love to do homeworld stuff or their early days on earth post-war, but i'm very open to suggestions. i like tension and drama, and smut with them real big power gaps. hmu!

which, again, falls into the ooc reasons for doing things and getting rewards as opposed to ic reasons, which is what my whole point is focused around. oocly, everyone has enough reasons to pick a side and get a dragon to ride or a unicorn or something. or nifty powers or houses. but icly, you're shoving characters into an increasingly hostile environment and sort of expecting them to just pick a side because...? because why?

oocly, the game is run very well and there's lots of communication and people making plans. icly, there's just no incentive, and that's where the lump sum of the problems come from. the mods clearly have a story they want to direct people towards and i really want to get there, but it's just hard when icly, your character has zero reason.

there ARE plenty of "fun" games out there. the problem is nobody joins them, so they either can't get off the ground or they're dead on arrival because everyone would rather bitch and moan and make excuses for why oh, it was just a bad time for me, or oh, i was waiting for everyone ELSE to hop in, or oh, i heard the mods were bad, or oh, i don't like this one specific mechanic, and so on. that's not even getting into people who unfairly pressure mods into trying to change their premise or make exceptions for their characters instead of accepting hey, maybe this just isn't the right fit for muh precious oc donut steal.

i miss fun games, too. and i also miss people willing to give them a chance rather than cramming themselves into the latest shiny clone of the week and then turning around and complaining about the vicious cycle we're stuck in. we are the sewers of our own demise, we are the cause of our own suffering.

by the way, i'm in a "fun" game right now, and i'm loving it. it's not super big, and it's not the 9000th iteration of SPOOPY SPESS, but it's great all the same. we are out there. look a little harder and take a chance, you might be surprised. you don't need 200 characters on the roster to have an amazing time.

I'm interested in playing a very manipulative sub: good at playing deferential and telling/giving whoever his dom/mme is what they want/want to hear to get what he wants from them, bad at actually yielding because he's very manipulative and plotty. Not looking for a top-from-the-bottom scenario here, just more someone with an agenda trying to twist whoever around his little finger.

I'd prefer a dom/mme who is taken in by whatever constructed face he's put on for this, but someone who either realizes that he's not nearly so obedient as he acts (and gets on his case for it) or just overwhelms him (with or without realizing what he's doing).

Please leave a sock if you're interested. I'm fine with characters from any medium, though my character is a 17-year old anime character as a note.

It depends on the character and on the canon. Generally speaking I try to review more rather than less, because little points of worldbuilding can come up when you don't expect, but if it's a huge fuckoff long canon or if I'm reviewing for a character who only shows up occasionally, I'm more likely to narrow down and look for their specific moments.

...now I want one of those robot cats, and probably one of the prairie dogs too.

i think it's just repetition of what's being offered. when you get offered the same three games over and over again, it feels a lot like that's all their is. and tbh, i'm more tired of the horror element and 'political intrigue' than space. i'd take a sci-fi or space game if it just didn't try to cram in as much as possible with horror and political elements.

it seems like every game i've seen advertised here and in emp, every new game lately, has been 'panfandom horror with elements of-' or 'panfandom exploration with elements of horror and-'

so you're seeing the same few things you don't like dished out over and over in just new varieties of the same thing and it makes everything seem unappealing.

which, let me clarify, doesn't mean any of those games are bad or horrible or how dare the mods. like i said initially, i'm really glad that there's new games being made, period. i'm just also torn and being a whiny ass over the fact that none of them have appealed to me in any fashion, so i'm standing outside feeling jealous.

like the other anon said, people just don't join them. it's one of the many reasons DRs died. look at enable me please. everyone wants something going on, some sort of plot, otherwise they get bored. look at how TDMs now need prompts. open settings that let you do what you want don't work nowadays. riverview is another good example, mods promised there could be plot and you see complaints about how it's being handled. guess what, nobody wants to go to the mission page and do the effort. the plot is there to grab it if you want it. it's like it hurts to think of things to do if mods don't put up a mingle to react to.

anyway, on top of my head, for fun games, you can go to riverview (plot comments aside most people are there for the sol), drift fleet or victory road

1000% agreed, i was just bemoaning to myself how every. pitch. sounds. exactly. the same these days. my interest level instantly turns off as soon as i see "political elements" (or similar phrases) anywhere in a game premise. not because i don't like playing politics, but it's always the same vague shit that doesn't actually go anywhere in practice. ime mods just toss it in as a buzzphrase hoping to attract as many potential players as possible and i'm pretty done with it.

mods/future mods of dwrp, please stop throwing everything at a dartboard hoping it sticks. not everything needs to be political, or spooky, or whatever. the everything and the kitchen sink approach is old and tired and i promise that YOU CAN DO ANYTHING!! hurts your eventual prospects more than it helps.

My first ever game was one One Piece themed. It actually got a fair share of hate on comms like this for too much crack (sometimes player plots did get a little ridiculous, not gonna lie), but I absolutely adored it.

It's been almost a decade since then, and I've played in 6 other games including my current one, but nothing has ever been quite as enjoyable.
