so many times I've been stopped by "I love this character but what if they only want canonmates/don't know the character I'm playing/etc?" and that note is the goddamn solution

(And before anyone makes the comment: OTA tends to refer to shipping preferences, so it doesn't necessarily cover this)

ota pretty much means you're open to all unless you put qualifiers in. i could say ota and then add i don't want cast. or ota for medium/cast/crosscanon, but i want m/f or m/m or whatever. if you just put ota, you're casting as wide a net as possible because honestly, most people don't know what they don't want until they don't want it. i could say 'i'm open to crosscanon specifically', but i get tagged by a canon i hate or have no interest in. doesn't mean i have to tag them.

there's too much anal retentiveness over general terms and broad openings needing to have specific meanings or else 'baww, waste of time'. it's typing. it's generally something that takes 2-10 minutes to write, depending on how much you write up as a starter. you didn't miss something important to tag someone. them not tagging you isn't going to ruin your life. people need to chill a bit more on rp and the expectations around it.

the best solution is probably to write complete sentences if you have preferences in mind since ota's apparently pretty meaningless at this point.
