I'm pretty sure people going to see weird art films alone aren't doing it because they're obsessed with leaping right into the fandom for it. They're doing it because they want to experience the art.

i went to an international film festival at my local theater because i was genuinely interested in seeing the films and i wouldn't get a chance to see them otherwise. none of my friends wanted to go with me and that was fine.
