memory sharing when it's done properly. i think de-aging can be pretty interesting (my characters learned stuff that would never have come up about their cr through those events), but i when i played with de-aging i was in games where there weren't big de-aging events per se but players could choose to de-age their characters any time. that was nice because maybe one or two people would be writing their characters as kids while the rest of the game could choose to engage or ignore the de-aged characters.

oh, i like honesty events too, especially when there's some impetus for characters to actually talk instead of dancing around answers. and i like lowered-impulse-control events, if that makes sense? i think a lot of people associate that with smutty stuff but they can be used to allow characters to be more openly affectionate and honest and whatnot too.

what i meant there was... i guess... done in a manner where the event isn't all about "look at my characters' painful backstory!!" i guess. i mean, i LOVE my characters seeing other characters' painful backstories, and other characters learning more about the shitty things in my characters' past, but if it's all about that it gets pretty one note and boring.

so i suppose it's as much about how the muns handle the event as it is about it the event itself.

oh i see! that's fair. any event that just boils down to people waving their trauma around trying to prove they have the most is boring. this is why i tend to like dreamscapes or mindmelds for memory sharing because they allow for a more elastic environment instead of just replaying scenes from a character's past while the rest of their cr watches and can't do anything (as opposed to like, the memories playing on a screen or something like that). bonus points if the other character's memories/subconscious can also come in and influence the thread and create a new unique experience. basically i like my memory sharing more like psychonauts' meat circus which is a twisted amalgamation of two minds than dark crystals' 'i hold your hand and see your past like an imax movie experience'.

i also love the idea of memory sharing stuff, but the biggest issue i usually see with those kind of events is that everyone is doing the memory sharing thing at the same time. it ends up being pretty unsatisfying a lot of the time because everyone's so wrapped up in their own opportunities to show off their characters' backstory that they don't engage enough with other people's memory shit. either you get a bit of a reaction from your close CR but can't devote much effort into playing with it because you've gotta do the same for all of them, you put tons of effort into engaging with someone else's backstory drama and then get nothing back from them, or your characters' memory stuff is overlooked entirely.

the best way i've ever seen memory sharing events handled was in a small game where it was a recurring thing that players had to sign up for and only one or two would be the focus of it at a time. it got a lot more of a reaction out of more people because they weren't all fighting to show off their own stuff at the same time, and it seemed way more effective at both deepening CR and providing a starting point for entirely new CR.

downside is it's really only feasible for small games.

I was just talking with others about de-aging events. A good number of people chimed in enthusiastically, it seems like a popular choice. As someone who plays mostly adult characters it's a nice change of pace.
