it's still the only ic political position that currently exists, and it definitely looks like they're gearing up to do more

ic or not it sucks that the only way to get in on it is to be cozy with existing powerful characters. there's basically nowhere you can get in this game without latching onto an established oldbie, and that makes it seem cliquey.

Except for all those other ambassadors that the game has had. And Sam has a lot of cr, probably his cr voted for him because they icly would.

a few characters on the candidates list were relatively new. I'm not surprised a lot of people voted for an active, already well established character over someone who's been in-game for a month or a character who's been in game for a while but with lower levels of activity.

this is why people think this game is unwelcoming to newbies

you're not going to get anywhere if you're too new

ok, but characters are more likely to icly trust a character they've seen around than a character who just arrived here. there's a difference between not being able to do anything and getting an ic political position the minute you step in the door.

The way you get somewhere if you're new is by tagging out, establishing your character, and pitching your ideas until you're not new anymore. Everyone was new at some point and no one gets to skip the newbie phase of the game where they have to work to establish themselves.

Yeah you're not going to accomplish all your goals within your first month in game. You have to work towards them. Not knocking any of the new players who gave it a go, though, and they probably got something out of it too by establishing their character as a political contender and making like-minded CR even if they didn't win.

pretty sure you wouldn't vote for some rando you've never seen or heard about in your whole life. It's IC for people NOT to vote for someone that just arrived a week ago imo.

But that aside, if you think literally the only thing coming out of this plot is "winning or losing" the ambassador spot, then you are missing out SO MUCH MORE that has been happening around it. The outcome of the elections was just a fraction of the whole thing and you are basically ignoring everything else for it /=

There are other characters (eg: Hundred) searching for a different political position. In fact, Ambassador position only became available because some imPorts demanded the government to hear them out. A big part of this game requires you to be proactive like that.

Maybe grab your character and try something further?

baelish is gearing up for a mayoral race, and if he gets it that will be another open position.

also, batman lost, so he and his player are setting up an ic justice league. other characters have started their own ic organizations as well. if you can't get your character an important position, the game setting is flexible enough that you can create one for them.

that works if your character is the type who would be willing to create a position, or if you have ideas for a position to invent, otherwise you're not going to have many options for working with what already exists

unpopular opinion but if your character isn't the type to move and shake, maybe they shouldn't icly be a mover and shaker

assuming it's the same anon, i'm wondering why they even want the position at this point. if your character's not proactive in general, then why do they wasn't a position that requires them to be proactive? it's like watching a vegetarian complain that nobody's giving them a hamburger.

in that case, why not join up with another ic group or hit up on e of the ambassadors for cr that could net your character a position? i've seen other characters do that before and it worked out well for them.

I mean, I'm sorry but these arguments basically boil down to "if you have no ideas, no initiative, and no cr, you won't have anything to do". Which...yeah, true.

And I get that some games are very straight-forward with that in a way that MoM isn't. They have lists of roles and let you sign up. In this game, a vast majority of the roles are player-created. Ambassador elections are the exception to this, but other than that if you see a player who has a significant role, it's probably because they created that role for themselves. A vast majority of the time, you are simply not going to be offered or presented with options, you have to make your own.

This game is very open and flexible, and one of the drawbacks to that flexibility is that if you're short on ideas for your character there are less opportunities to just sign them up for something. But honestly I see a lot of people being their own roadblocks here by adopting the "if it doesn't already exist, it's not allowed/not needed" mindset and trying to play only with what they're given. If you have an idea, don't be afraid to pursue it, the worst that can happen is the mods say no. If you would rather be given existing options to play with than create your own even if that results in a more restrictive setting, this might not be the best game for you.

I think a lot of players still haven't realized this and how the player-game-world-characters dynamic works in MoM. If an imPort wants to come up with the crazy idea to create a country for imPorts only, they actually CAN as long they pursue it right.

My character took part to become more visible. It's a win/win, and that's going to result in a lot more CR and growth. Not getting the position can be as good as actually getting it.
