I'm looking into making a Mike journal at the moment, but what are some other characters that you guys would be interested in seeing around here? I'm about to replay and I'd be down to give just about anyone a shot.

stuck/stranded + amnesia + working together

Two characters end up stuck in a house together, no memories beyond the basics - how to walk and talk and all of that - and possibly their names. They've got the basics, plus some network technology that lets them send messages, provide some entertainment, and find out basic information about the world, possibly gives "orders" they need to follow, but otherwise won't answer questions. They have to work together to escape, though something keeps stopping them. Eventually they start to regain memories of their past in flashes, which in turn spurs them on to escape.

I've got preference for what their relationship was in the past (just not outright enemies) moving toward shipping them. OCs are great, but I can also easily work with AU characters (and we can discuss fandoms). I mostly play LA characters but cross-medium works. In terms of the technicalities of RP, I'd like to incorporate both longer scenes and text stuff, hence the phones.

i have two that i think would be fun and they both involve tracking down an alistair. the premise for both is that he's been made king, though he could either be ruling alone or married to anora, and it could be set anytime between origins and inquisition. either:

1. a bitter warden and bitter alistair start some level of affair because life is hard for everyone and then you die of the taint ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ with preference for not having had a romance during origins, maybe making it slow burn that's more angst than fluff

2. king alistair happens upon isabela on a trip and remembers her vaguely from kirkwall. he's clearly got Issues and she is very good at taking the edge off of things

Two incest prompts!

A: Brother/Sister or Father/Daughter; a college-age girl gets thrills by posting ads online where she's waiting naked and blindfolded in a hotel room to have sex with anonymous internet strangers. Her father/brother comes across the ad and decides to take advantage of it, disguising their voice so she never knows it's them.

B: Father/Daughter; a single (widower or divorced) dad and his teenage daughter have a loving incestuous relationship. He rewards her good grades in school with sex and exploring her kinky side.

Preference is to play the sister/daughter in all of these. I would also accept a sister for A or a mother for B, but I do have a preference for the m/f variations this time.

Dandelion from the Witcher series

Through the beginning and middle of the book series it looked like Dandelion was a good aversion of the bumbling sidekick trope, since the author says he has many skills and shows his different way of thinking about the world compared to his more fighty-badass character friend Geralt. But later on in the books and, from what I've seen, in the games too (I don't have a good enough computer to play past the first game) he backslides into that trope because absolutely everything he does he fucks up, we're told he has strengths but the narrative doesn't allow him to show them.

I'd really like to play the character he has the potential to be. I'm not interested in playing a character who, while very brave and loyal and well intentioned, does nothing but fuck up every single thing he touches. But that's what he's known for doing, since that is the role he plays in pretty much every plot.

My concern is that even if I do keep his weaknesses in mind changing something so recognizable as his role as a constant screw up will make people think I'm being willfully OOC. Suggestions?

space exploration dressing room with events and player planet creation

because all I really want in life is some low-key space fun. every now and again the subject comes up around anons wanting a proper open ended space RP (or Cowboy Bebop game). unfortunately I don't have the time or energy to run a full-scale game with apps and AC, but open space would make a mighty fine dressing room setting.

originally I intended to keep things to a compact, invite-only scale...but then I remembered I've been away from DWRP so long I don't really know anybody TO invite anymore. so why not open it up to everyone? dressing rooms seem to be past their heyday nowadays, but I'd still be happy to take a shot at running one if even a couple of people were interested. it's not like I've anything to lose.

the setting would be very free and open ended (it's space! do whatever the hell you want), but there would be a locations page of different planets, space stations, comet fields, abandoned ships and other oddities to help give players some framework within to form their adventures. which is where the player-creation side of things comes in: if they want, players can make their own planets and share them on the locations post for other characters to visit in their own threads. there would also be semi-frequent (weekly? biweekly?) prompts with new planets to explore, anomalies to check out, and, yes, bounties to catch, should people need some direction.

anyone feel they'd be interested in something like this? the floor is open for ideas/questions/etcetera.

i should have known things wouldn't change just because i had. you've always been the type to see nothing wrong with how you go about things and act like it's everyone else who's doing something wrong, so i don't know why i thought you'd have made an actual effort to grow as a person. it's not like you. you probably saw the regular changes that come with the passage of time and assumed you'd grown. i should have listened to the people who told me it wasn't worth it.

i have my insecurities, sure, but i never question whether or not my other friends actually like me and enjoy my company. i already know you can be two-faced and how nasty you can get. you've never been willing to communicate, and in a lot of ways that isn't your fault, i know how things have been for you, but you're too self-absorbed to even see that it's a problem. you'd sooner let yourself grow to hate someone you call a friend than confront a problem, no matter how minor. when i bring this to your attention i feel like i'm talking to a wall. i've given up.

i should be able to trust you after so long, but i can't. i'm not sure i can call it emotional abuse at this point, but it's a near thing. even simple conversations have become stressful because i'm always wondering if you're judging me for the tiniest things. somewhere down the line, you beat me down again and made your approval something i needed, and despite everything, i just let it happen. i didn't realize how bad it'd gotten until i talked to someone yesterday. i feel like an idiot for even making an attempt to rebuild our friendship, much less letting things go this far.

up until now, i've made excuses like "it's more trouble than it's worth" or "it'll make things awkward with so and so", but i'm done with that. i've already got enough to worry about. I'm not putting myself through this again. i'm ready to cut ties and move on.

i'd say this to your face, but you'd never let it get this far. you'd try to suck me back in. it's not worth it. i don't care if it makes me a hypocrite. i won't miss you this time.

most of the reason i don’t like putting a lot of introspection into my tags isn’t because people try to use it to infomod me, but because i keep running into people who jump on any introspection and respond to it directly in their own narration, turning the non-dialogue part of the thread into this meta hypothetical where we're discussing each other's narratives back and forth in our tags, and it just feels awkward to me. my preferred style is something like

A: Peggy Sue can't deny that having someone to watch her back in the dangerous wilds of Xxxtreme Jamjar Jungle would be nice, but she hasn't known Sally Jane long enough to trust her completely yet. What if she's not as nice as she seems or too incompetent to survive? Back home on Zombie Apocalypse World, she'd met too many people like that to not be cautious. But Peggy Sue hides her reservations behind a confident smile and holds out her hand to shake. "It's a deal. I'll help carry your duffle bag of supplies if you spot me on the swinging rope bridge."
B: What a relief! Sally Jane grabs Peggy Sue's hand and shakes it enthusiastically. She'd been alone for so long, even back home on Futuristic Dystopia World. Peggy Sue seems nice. Maybe she'll become the friend that Sally Jane has always hoped for. "Sounds like a plan," she says. "But I'm allergic to fire ants, and there's a nest of them by the swinging rope bridge. Let's make a raft to get across the river instead."
A: The enthusiastic response puts Peggy Sue a little more at ease. It's nice to deal with someone who's so puppylike and energetic. Most of the people at home are jaded hardasses. "There's a pile of logs over there," she says, pointing. "We can use those."

A: Peggy Sue is also used to being underestimated, and if she shared her reservations with Sally Jane, she would be quick to reassure her that it was nothing personal. She seems like a nice girl, and after a few weeks of working together, she'll surely be comfortable enough to open up a little more. "There's a pile of logs over there," she says, pointing. if i don't go along with it at least a little bit i feel bad about ignoring half their tag, but i don't need narration about how the other character would hypothetically react to something that they don't actually know about. you can tell me about that on plurk. a lot of people seem to like doing this in their threads and more power to them, but to me it feels too much like having an OOC discussion about the characters and i’d rather save that for plurk or aim chatting. it's a style i just don't get.

Post Surgery Question

Not RP related, but I don't know where else to ask. Had abdominal surgery two days ago but can't seem to eat due to nausea. Was told broth works well but it's too much for my stomach so far - a few spoons in and I'm too full. Anyone have any tips on light/nutrient rich stuff you can eat after surgery?

Any advice would be appreciated. I can at least manage water, but I figure that'll only get me so far.

my advice is to go for some yogurt and oatmeal. if you need to, blend the yogurt with some ice.
