space exploration dressing room with events and player planet creation
(Anonymous) 2017-06-01 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)originally I intended to keep things to a compact, invite-only scale...but then I remembered I've been away from DWRP so long I don't really know anybody TO invite anymore. so why not open it up to everyone? dressing rooms seem to be past their heyday nowadays, but I'd still be happy to take a shot at running one if even a couple of people were interested. it's not like I've anything to lose.
the setting would be very free and open ended (it's space! do whatever the hell you want), but there would be a locations page of different planets, space stations, comet fields, abandoned ships and other oddities to help give players some framework within to form their adventures. which is where the player-creation side of things comes in: if they want, players can make their own planets and share them on the locations post for other characters to visit in their own threads. there would also be semi-frequent (weekly? biweekly?) prompts with new planets to explore, anomalies to check out, and, yes, bounties to catch, should people need some direction.
anyone feel they'd be interested in something like this? the floor is open for ideas/questions/etcetera.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-01 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)my priority with this setting is to give players as much freedom as possible. as such, one of the earliest decisions made about the setting was that players should be free to decide on the hows and whys their own character got to space: shot there accidentally, saw a future where space travel became a thing, kidnapped by UFOs, won a cruise lottery, etcetera etcetera.
hell, players are free to straight up AU their characters into the setting if they like! it's a DR, you can do whatever you want. my plan was to include a bit in the FAQ saying players are free to cook up their own reasons for their characters going off-world, but if it would be helpful to couple of stock-reasons to pick from I can most certainly add that.

(Anonymous) - 2017-06-01 23:13 (UTC) - ExpandFight Club at the seedy end of the universe
(Anonymous) 2017-06-01 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)And while all these different worlds are busy exploring, fighting over, colonizing or simply mining for raw materials this new space connecting them (or hey, each other, go nuts), the game itself is actually set in some rundown bar in one of the dirty corners of this unclaimed void, where the lawless flotsam of the multiverse congregates to do some business – and bet on some fights.
So if you always wanted to make a living punching aliens in the face, here’s your chance. There’s just one catch – those fights? Are fixed. And you gotta lose some, before you get to win one.
I’m planning to get this game up-and-running fast and focus on the mod-work around the fights, no bells and whistles otherwise.
Meaning no special layout, no extensive worldbuilding past what players absolutely need to know to app. What’s not fight-specific will actually run more like a dressing room.
That means multiples are allowed, multiple versions of one canon are allowed, players can do their thing with the meta-plot as long as they don’t do their 'kid kicks over everyone else’s sandcastle and runs away giggling' impression. Apps are going to focus heavily on being able to write a fight that’s fun for both the opposing player and the audience – 1 winning, 1 losing fight to app.
The mods/RNG will decide the result of each fight.
No game-enforced power-nerf.
Game is 18+ (this goes for violence, sex, mature themes)
Some questions for anon:
- How fucked is a game/DR with a standard layout/maybe some inspirational pics for setting?
- What do you think about training fights – for players? Meaning a mod referees an out-of-game-canon fight, booing you for writing a too hesitant/fearful tag, cheering entertaining tags and rolling with the punches from both sides, stepping in and giving tips if a tag crosses over into real god-moding or power posturing? Some post-fight talk?
I figure writing a good fight against a near stranger isn’t a skill we’re all born with and it can be a bit nerve-wracking, since you don’t have a good sense of their boundaries yet, but being too cautious results in dull tags. A mod can give a point of reference people can use to orient themselves.
Not going to happen often, due to time/planning/work involved, but definitely something I want to offer if people are interested.
- (If you’re interested in fight games in general) what do you personally absolutely need in a fight game to app?
- (Ditto) what would absolutely prevent you, personally, from apping?
- Do you guys have questions for me?
Re: Fight Club at the seedy end of the universe
(Anonymous) 2017-06-02 12:44 am (UTC)(link)- you need an NPC promoter, and I want him to be Vincent Kennedy McMahon levels of bonkers-crazy-evil. i want "IT WAS ME AUSTIN" level madness here.
- having some of the fights not be fixed from time to time can keep things exciting
- most importantly, while having characters arrive of their own volition would be refreshing, i feel you'd bait more characters if you had an option of people being forced to fight for this galactic fed against their will in some way. it allows for more diverse plotting options, too. having a voluntary and involuntary reason for showing up to the game opens up options more for people who are interested but can't quite finagle the reason why their character would show up.
- opportunities for characters to grow their IC brand in the game, get heat with the crowd, get over, and increase their chances of being seen as valuable by your wacky-ass promoter NPC, as well as the NPC with-holding some kind of reward that would encourage them to do so. incentivize their participation in these fixed fights.
Re: Fight Club at the seedy end of the universe
(Anonymous) 2017-06-02 01:25 am (UTC)(link)- fixed fights. I see what you mean, but tbh, at first I'm going to work with fixed fights. I think gameplay will evolve naturally to the point characters gain enough power to insist on an unfixed fights and I want to keep it simple at first. Could totally work with telling the players halfway into the fight who needs to lose/IC shenanigans where the result keeps switching mid-fight cause several people are trying to buy the results to keep it interesting! What do you think?
- Actually, due to the wonky nature of game-canon, I was hoping to give players enough control over the environment as well as how their home world/home canon interacts with it, to give their characters reasons to show up to fight, be they voluntary or not. In fact, I wanted to make that part of the app. I don't want to offer fixed reasons, because I think letting people come up with individual ideas will be a lot of fun, but I'm certainly happy to help if they need a mod to get their idea to work!
The main reward the Fight Club offers is money. Add that it's a pretty remote corner of the void and returning to your home-universe isn't exactly easy - or cheap, I can totally see a lawful type chasing a villain and then getting stuck at the ass-end of nowhere. So what's he gonna sell for the tech/information to get back, heck, for his food?
- IC brand - this is brilliant and it will be added immediately! I think I will also add some kind of access system where you need a certain kind of reputation to get in - like other clubs, bars, getting to people who might be able to sell you something you want. Again hoping to get players involved, so people can plot against each other.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-13 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)You need an abilities scale, though, so players who aren't familiar with each other's characters can have some way to gauge how hard the other can hit. My personal suggestion would be to create a general scale of strength, agility, and hand/eye coordination, and then provide example characters from both live action and anime for each level of the scale. Is your character Hulk strong? Cap strong? Widow strong? Darcy strong?

(Anonymous) 2017-06-13 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)roman senate / world changing
(Anonymous) 2017-06-02 02:39 pm (UTC)(link)My issue is that I don't know of how to surmount certain issues. Like IC cheating, intimidation, bribery etc to get what a character wants would all be allowed but I wonder if it'll drag over into OOC to a point of being a mod issue.
Also, female characters and teens/kids would have a lot less open say in the direction of the game since they can't be a part of the senate (shooting for a modicum of realism) and I don't know how well that would translate gameplay wise. Or even if I should bend realism and allow it, I don't know.
Looking for advice or ideas on how to spruce things up.
Re: roman senate / world changing
(Anonymous) 2017-06-02 03:59 pm (UTC)(link)--Overall, be willing to bend historical stuff to a certain degree. Especially if this is more along the lines of a jamjar.
--I personally think it is a bad idea to limit character participation based on gender. Historically realistic or not, you are asking for trouble and accusations of mod bias from the get go. You can likely do this if you decide this is an AU game where everyone is a world native, but not if you're expecting people to app in as being pulled from their own canon.
--Cheating, intimidation, and bribery can always potentially drag into OOC. You either will need very clear rules, a small number of players, or both, to do this appropriately.
--While this is all good, what is the actual plot of the game? It seems to me that you're more worried about mechanics and you haven't defined the story yet.

(Anonymous) - 2017-06-02 19:45 (UTC) - ExpandReality-Bending Sex Game
(Anonymous) 2017-06-05 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)I formerly played in Carvaka, and this is in a similar vein. It also draws a lot of ideas from a game I helped with back in the Livejournal days.
The basic idea of the game is that characters wind up in an unstable reality that draws on the minds and memories of its inhabitants to reshape the chaotic energy it has been reduced to. Unfortunately, the characters' existence is also unstable, and to keep existing they need to keep themselves firmly in the minds of others. They do this by forming and maintaining connections, and sex is the most reliable way to do so.
The more connections they maintain, the more real they become. The more real they are, the more the world draws on them to rebuild itself. In terms of the game, all smut AC is rewarded with tokens. Tokens can be used to either pool together with other players to push setting expansion pre-planned by the mods or collected to add something specific from the character's original canon.
The game developent is currently progressing quite nicely. We have drafts for nearly all information pages available on our mod account, anamnesis_mod (subject to changes). We also have a Plurk, anamnesia. Feedback, questions and suggestions are welcome!
Right now, we are interested in finding someone up for helping with coding and making the game look presentable, and finding someone interested in a story/event co-mod position. If you are interested and have experience, please contact us through either Plurk or PMing the mod account (Plurk is preferred). Thanks!

Dark fantasy war and... sex?
(Anonymous) 2017-06-16 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)War! OCs! Politics! Jamjar! Power gains! PvP and PvE! Slavery! Werewolves! Magic! Mystery!
Got an 18+ no-AC dark fantasy setting following the edges of an imperial expansionist war. If you're a TL;DR kind of person, check out the in-progress game pages here: http://bloodtithe.dreamwidth.org/1709.html
The longer deets:
Dark fantasy jamjar! Characters who aren't natives have a threaded-out arrival scenario to introduce them to the world and (unbeknownst to them) determine their starting social positions.
They're put on the front lines of an empire's expansionist war or relegated to slavery out of fear they'll make trouble. Monthly events include battles, spying missions, unraveling magical mysteries, celebrating local holidays, and more along those veins.
People can app in native OCs of any flavor, or help out by playing a wanted OC- royal families, lords and ladies, etc.
18+ for elements of horror, violence, and sauciness. Completed combat and sex threads can be turned in for power-ups.
Please kick the tires and provide feedback! Hoping for a small but active crew, invite-only after launching.

(Anonymous) 2017-06-17 01:33 am (UTC)(link)--How do you intend to prevent info modding or power gaming in the information department?
--How do you intend to use NPCs in this game? As major players in their own right, or simply remote figures who pop in every so often?
--How will information be gained and shared, and how will that be kept even across players? There's a quick route to accusations of favoritism in this regard.
Also, when are you planning to open discussions for native OCs? I'm quite interested in that and fandom characters for this!!
