b, good tags get me to respond. if all you give me is a character then if idgaf about your character idgaf about tagging you and finding out if you're fun or not. i understand why people do it but i'm a lot pickier about tagging if all you ask is "do you want a xyz?"

starter, though i don't really mind a message first

b. it'll highlight that someone is willing to take initiative and it'll give me a taste of what your writing is like. i'll tag pretty much any character back as long as it's not:

1. a widely known bad rper like oceanicbutterfly/lasthungrywolf/bison/etc
2. a cold-open smut tag on an otherwise gen meme that has 1 smut option. if i'm on a gen meme that has a smut option i think i'd rather start with gen and work up to smut if it heads that way. if i wanted to get right to smut in the first tag i'd be in the mid-fuck meme.

as a side note if someone comes up to me asking if i'm interested in something and they're subscribed to the love hotel or has access to a community the same as someone i've turned down before i'll immediately be wary of them as an alt account or something, but if they write a starter instead of going "how does 6+7 sound?" i feel like i can judge the fun vs risk factor more accurately.

a is fine if it's to establish the setting or relationship but if it's just "do you want this character..." or "do you want to start", it just delays the actual playing for no good reason imo.

I don't mind a comment or PM, but I'd personally prefer a starter which has had some thought put into it. I like crosscanon and random encounters though and I try and tag out myself whenever inspiration strikes, but when I top level I want someone else to do the leg work and if they do I'll almost certainly tag back (conditions apply, etc.)

The latter is fine with me, though I prefer the former (with some scenario ideas thrown in to show you're not passive deadweight) on smut memes. I try to lead with that too.

i prefer b by a wide margin. if you're looking for input on a specific scenario or relationship you're interested in playing, that's cool, but please for the love of god don't ask me if your character who suits all my preferences for that meme is acceptable.

in my own tagging out, i lean toward b, but i do a pretty often because i prefer to tag out cross canon and i like to check if the person is okay with whatever au or scenario i'm thinking of before i write a starter around it.

Depends on the meme. If it's a plotty one, a little planning won't hurt, but if I have set preferences, as long as it's within them, come at me.

but A is infinitely more exciting from canonmates than crossover, just because if I wind up being the one to write the starter, which is fine with me, I'm more confident that I can come up with something that suits us both.
