Have you ever been so off put by the way an art style looked in icons that it affected your playing? I never thought I would, but I'm threading with someone right now, and while the character is somewhat serious, it's hard to take them as such when the icons have such a terrible looking style.

i used to thread with a winx club character and had to adblock all the icons because for the life of me i couldn't take that awful art seriously

yeeeeah... I love OCs to bits and I know it's difficult coming across icons for them, but some of the players around here have such bad sets it becomes more difficult for my shallow self to take their character seriously. I respect for anyone who draws their own icons, regardless of skill level. that must take a lot of time and effort and I can appreciate the need for your muse to be individual (rather than risking being mistaken for an existing character, or stuck with bland modelface icons), but some people's art just isn't good. and it's a shitty thing for me to assume, but if your art is crude, I have to push past the assumption your character building skills are going to be too.

I don't even watch the show and I've noticed one anon seems to hate the show for things every other cartoon does.

no, and believe it or not more than one person can hold the same opinion about something. I actually *like* the show well enough as a fun, no-focus watch, but the animaion quality is inconsistent and anyone who thinks otherwise is deluding themselves. if you're going to play from this, for the love of god don't pick icons where the characters look like they were drawn for a squash frame. love yourself.

What bothers me about that anon is that they don't use on-model/off-model correctly, they just say off-model to describe anytime they think the show looks ugly. Which, okay, if you don't like how the show looks that's one thing. But it's not some terrible shadow over the quality name of cartoon network that it's​ ugly.

It does kinda feel that way. But as an SU player who does my own icons, this legitimately can be a bit of a problem. It doesn't bother me just watching the show, but when I'm poring over screencaps, my character can look pretty different from episode to episode and just weird-looking a lot.

i've never had had this issue with icons made from canon art that happened to be ugly. there's a special sort of distracting about a character who's represented by a fucked up misshapen crayola monstrosity, though

yes. i can take most anime/manga art styles, but sometimes i just... cannot. also, if an OC's icons are very ugly, i'm just not going to tag them.

there's an rper who rps one of my favorite characters ever from a canon that's very famous but ive never seen rped and they're good and ic

but the art for their icons is so fucking disgustingly bad i cannot help but cringe every time i see it and it puts me into deep despair for what could have been
