why do people put "old enough" or "18+" or some other non-specific answer on their applications these days? not trying to be inflammatory, but... why? who do you have to be embarrassed about your age toward?

some people don't like giving out that much personal information? and when you get past 30, age really isn't relevant for apps unless you're doing forty something. besides, with all the shit i've seen people give other shit for "hur, i can't believe a thirty year old watches spongebob" or some other dumb mocking, keeping your specific age to yourself just seems better.

why do you need to know exactly how old someone is? if you're actually their buddy or online friend, you'll probably find out on their birthday.

There are actually people who say things like "that person is so old, why are they rping" (or at least there used to be, maybe they all grew up). But agreeing with other anons that my real age doesn't matter to a mod, they just want to know if I'm old enough.

I like to unwind with RP, and I don't see myself stopping anytime soon when it's been my go-to hobby since high school. There seem to be a lot of anons who say shit like "They're in their thirties and they're still RPing, don't they have a household to maintain/child to raise" or "If you're 35+ and playing from a canon marketed to kids you're definitely creepy" and who needs that? All the mods care about is that I can legally view porn/violence.

i just went and checked and i have all of 2 people that have their age on their hover plurks. most just have gender and one person on my list has not stating. pretty sure that's the norm for a lot of people. just like yours might be the norm for a lot of people too. doesn't make it weird.

because, if you've ever been stalked, online or off -- and I mean actively harassed, people hunting down your home number, yelling at your younger siblings in the street, knocking on your door in the early hours in the morning as all happened to me after drama back in school, it becomes second nature to keep all info about yourself close to your chest, however small. my experience is an extreme outlier, but I'm sure others who have been the center of any sort of drama will be able to relate.

other reasons? general desire for pricacy, and the fact some RPers (it's especially prevalent on tumblr) get weird about playing with anyone "older", which can be anywhere within the 25-40+ bracket depending on who you ask. honest question though, why do you NEED to know how old the people you're playing with are? it just seems nosy to me. and don't give me that "what if they're a creeper" shit because a 25yo is just as likely to be exploitative as an RPer in their 50s.

I put my real age, but I think a lot of people are bothered by it because younger players (ones currently in college usually) do make a big deal out of it sometimes.
