It probably has to do with the identity of the corpses. In DWRP, we tend to have a "hands off" approach to what happens to dropped characters, even if a game's ending, so a modteam turning those dropped characters into actual corpses littering a beach can be seen as fairly audacious.

Is it all grimdark and edgelord? Sure, but at least it's a different kind from the typical torture porn edginess DWRP usually has. It at least did something different.

I'm not sure you get the point of being original. Just because someone does the same thing years later doesn't mean the one who did it before wasn't being creative or original.
